INTRODUCTION TO ETAP

STEPS INVOLVED IN STARTING ETAP PROJECT:

Step 1: Create New Project File
Step 2: Setting project information.
Step 3: Setting project standards.
Step 4: Enabling grid lines.
Step 5: Enable check circuit continuity.
Step 6: System Dumpster
Step 7: System Manager
Step8: Enable One-Line Auto Build

STEP 1: How to Create New Project File?

➢ Open the ETAP software→ Then go for Files menu→ Open New Project

➢ Create New Project file & we can choose the directory location also for future
access. Now the folder created in C\ETAP 1901
➢ Check the unit system frequency 50Hz or 60Hz for our project. Then click
okay.
➢ Then ETAP asks User information details. Choose ETAP authentication and
fill the user name details. Click ok.

➢ Selection of Access Level

➢ The new ETAP workspace is created.

STEP 2: Setting project information
➢ The project information as Project Title, Location, Contract Number, Project
Engineer Name, Company Name, Remarks and Comments are to be filled.

STEP 3: Setting project standards

➢ The projects are set in Project Standards. In the standards dialog box, the
Standard IEC / ANSI, Frequency –50 / 60, Unit System –Metric / English,
Date and Currency are fixed.

STEP 4: Enabling grid lines.

➢ By Enabling the Grid Lines, it helps to maintain uniformity design.
STEP 5: Enable check circuit continuity.
The check circuit continuity is used to check the continuity of supply in the
system. When it is enabled, only the circuit with grid or generator source will
appear dark and the circuit with no supply source will appear blurred indicating
that there is no power flow.

STEP 6: System Dumpster

System dumpster is just like RECYCLE BIN. To delete any component or
circuit, just selecting it and simply deleting will only move it to the ‘System
Dumpster’ and it does not permanently delete the circuit. To permanently delete
the components or circuit, select the portion Shift + Delete. This does not store
any circuit in the system dumpster.
STEP 7: System Manager
The system manager option is used to give the count of components used
in the SLD. It counts the components used in the one-line diagram and the
components or circuit stored in the system dumpster.

STEP8: Enable One-Line Auto Build

It is used to automatically build the circuit on just selecting the required
components. It also helps to quickly build the circuit and components can be
included in the middle anywhere by just selecting the existing component and
then choosing the required elements from library.
