A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate their expanding
knowledge of vocabulary and grammatical
structures, literal and inferential comprehension of
literary and informational texts, and composing
and creating processes; and apply their receptive
and productive skills in order to produce culture-
specific texts based on their purpose, context, and
target audience.
B. Performance Standards The learners apply literal and inferential
comprehension of literary and informational texts
and produce culture-specific narrative and
expository texts (recount) based on their purpose,

A. Activating Prior Knowledge Motivation:
Minds and Moods Show pictures of cartoon characters and Tv
(5 minutes) personalities. Let the pupils name them.

The teacher asks the pupils about their favorite


cartoon character and Tv personality.

Unlocking of Difficulties:
Directions: Give the synonym of the underlined
words.
1. It is hard to swallow food when you have a
sore throat. (reject, throw away, take
through the mouth)
2. Wearing sweater on a sunny day looks
absurd. (simple, weird, beautiful)
3. Guests were told to wear fancy dress in the
party. (extravagant, dull, untidy)
B. Establishing Lesson Purpose (Picture Analysis)
(Aims)
(10 minutes)

The teacher asks the following questions:


1. What can you say about the picture
presented?
2. What idea comes to your mind upon
seeing this picture?
3. Do you really believe that there are certain
things that are impossible to happen?
C. Developing and Deepening
Understanding Today, we are going to listen to a poem about “The
(Tasks and Thoughts) Old Woman who Swallowed a Fly”.
(25 minutes)
What would you like to find out in the

poem? The teacher presents the poem to

the pupils.
1. Go back to the motive questions. Have the
pupils answer them clearly.
2. Comprehension Check
Ask the following questions:
a. What are the animals mentioned in the
poem? How many are they in all?
b. What did the old woman do?
c. Do you believe that there is such an old
woman who can swallow animals, like
spider, bird, cat, and horse?
d. Was the poem believable?
e. Do these really happen in real life?

Discuss to the pupils what is reality and fantasy.

Reality - happens in real life. It is something that


exists. Fantasy - is only make believe; something that
cannot happen in real life. It is just a part of our
imagination.

Enrichment:
Let the students distinguish reality and fantasy by
presenting another poem and have them do the
activity by group present it to the class.
Guided Practice
Group 1: Classify It
Directions: Identify whether the events from the
poem is reality or fantasy. Write R if it is Reality
and F if it is Fantasy.
1. There was an old woman who lived in a shoe.

3. The children stayed outside all day long to

4. If you had ten children you didn’t know
what to do. (R)

Group 2: Write It
With your group members, talk about the poem.
Select the event that may happen and event that

Group 3: Act It Out


Select the part of the poem which you think is
impossible to happen. Make a role play of it.

Group 4: Draw It
Make an illustration of the events that happened in
real life. Identify whether it is a fantasy or reality.

Independent Practice

The teacher will read sentences and the pupils will


identify whether it is Fantasy or Reality. They will
show a thumbs up if it is Fantasy and a heart sign if
it is Reality.

3. I won the singing contest in our school.
4. I saw a zombie outside my window.
5. The girl Pina became a pineapple fruit.
D. Making Generalizations Learners’ Takeaway
(Abstraction)
(7 minutes) How will you distinguish reality? Fantasy?
 Reality refers to situations that may happen
in real life.
 Fantasy refers to situations that are
magical or make believe and could not
happen in real life.

Reflection on learning
Since we are living in the real world, how are
you going to show your appreciation to God’s
creation?
IV. EVALUATING LEARNING
(Test) Directions: Write Fantasy if the sentence tells about
(10 minutes) make believe events and Reality if tells about real
situations.

1. My mother can fly like a bird.


2. Birds can fly up in the sky.
3. I found a talking basket.
4. Fishes can swim.
5. The flowers are singing.

Assignment: Write 5 sentences for Fantasy and 5


sentences for Reality.
