Subject: Computer System Servicing

Grade Level: Grade 11

Class Objectives: Computer peripherals devices and hardware disassembly

Difficulty: Advanced

Materials: Allow the use of any materials

Time: 1 hr

Activity: Disassemble and Reassemble a Computer Peripheral

Introduction:

In this activity, students will have the opportunity to enhance their

understanding of computer peripherals by disassembling and reassembling a
computer peripheral device. By engaging in hands-on disassembly, students
will gain practical knowledge about the internal components of computer
peripherals and develop skills in troubleshooting and maintenance.

Significance:

This activity is significant as it provides students with a practical application

of their theoretical knowledge in computer system servicing. It allows
students to explore the intricacies of computer peripherals, understand their
functions, and learn how to troubleshoot common issues. By actively
engaging in disassembly and reassembly, students will improve their critical
thinking and problem-solving skills.

Teaching Strategy: Experiential Learning

Materials:

- Computer peripheral device (e.g., keyboard, mouse, printer)

- Screwdrivers

- Anti-static wrist strap

- Workspace for each student

Detailed Instructions:

1. Introduce the activity and its objectives to the students.

2. Provide each student with a computer peripheral device and necessary
tools.

3. Instruct students to carefully disassemble the device, keeping track of

each component.

4. Encourage students to identify and label the components as they

disassemble.

5. Once disassembled, discuss the function of each component with the

students.

6. Instruct students to reassemble the device, ensuring all components are

correctly placed.

7. Test the reassembled device to check for functionality.

Example Run-through:

Students are given a computer keyboard and are guided through the process
of disassembling it. They identify the various components such as key
switches, membrane layers, and circuit boards. After understanding the
function of each component, they reassemble the keyboard and test its
functionality by typing on it.

Rubrics:

- Correct disassembly and identification of components (20 pts)

- Accurate labeling of components (15 pts)

- Successful reassembly of the device (20 pts)

- Functionality test of the reassembled device (15 pts)

- Overall organization and cleanliness of workspace (10 pts)

- Active participation and engagement (10 pts)

Assessment Questions:

1. What are the main components of the computer peripheral device you
disassembled?

2. How does understanding the internal components of computer peripherals

help in troubleshooting?

3. Why is it important to use anti-static precautions when handling electronic

components?
Pre-Activity Rationale:

Before the activity, students are expected to have a basic understanding of

computer peripherals and their functions. The activity aims to provide a
hands-on experience that reinforces theoretical knowledge and develops
practical skills in disassembly and reassembly.

Post-Activity Rationale and Analysis:

After completing the activity, students are expected to have a deeper

understanding of the internal components of computer peripherals and the
process of troubleshooting and maintenance. By reflecting on their
experience, students can connect the hands-on activity to the learning
objectives and identify areas for further improvement.

To make the activity more engaging based on the cultural nuances of the
Philippines, consider incorporating the following:

- Incorporate local examples of computer peripherals commonly used in the

Philippines.

- Relate the activity to real-life scenarios or common computer issues faced

by individuals in the Philippines.

- Encourage collaborative learning and group discussions, reflecting the

Filipino value of bayanihan (community unity).
