Slide 1: Hi, we are group 5 and today’s presentation is about

the Inventions.

Slide 3: First of all, let’s take a look at the history of the

inventions. Regarding the four industrial revolutions. It is an
era of accelerated technological progress characterized by
new inventions which can bring huge change in society.

Slide 4: The 1st revolution used water and steam power to

mechanize production. It’s the major shift of technological,
socioeconomic and cultural conditions in the late 18th
century and early 19th century that began in Britain and
spread throughout the world.

Slide 5: The 2nd used electric power to create mass

production. It was another great leap forward in technology
and society. New innovations in steel production, petroleum
and electricity led to the introduction of public automobiles
and airplanes. In this lesson, learn about the key inventions
that spurred this revolution.

Slide 6: The sweeping changes brought about by computing

and communication technology, starting from circa 1950 with
the creation of the first general-purpose electronic
computers. The 3rd used electronics and information
technology to automate production. “How Lateral Power is
Transforming Energy, the Economy, and the World” is a book
by Jeremy Rifkin published in 2011. The premise of the book
is that fundamental economic change occurs when new
communication technologies converge with new energy
regimes, mainly, renewable electricity.

Slide 7: 4th revolution is building on the 3rd, the digital

revolution that has been occurring since the middle of the
last century. It is characterized by a fusion of technologies
that is blurring the lines between the physical, digital, and
biological spheres. There are 3 reasons why today’s
transformations represent not merely a prolongation of the
3rd revolution but rather the arrival of a 4th and distinct one:
velocity, scope, and systems impact.
The speed of current breakthroughs has no historical
precedent. When compared with previous industrial
revolutions, the 4th is evolving at an exponential rather than
a linear pace. Moreover, it is disrupting almost every industry
in every country. And the breadth and depth of these
changes herald the transformation of entire systems of
production, management, and governance. The 4th is
characterized by the fusion of the digital, biological, and
physical worlds, as well as the growing utilization of new
technologies such as AI, cloud computing, robotics, 3D
printing, the Internet, and advanced wireless technologies,
among others-has ushered in a new era of economic
disruption with uncertain socioeconomic consequences for
Africa. However, Africa has been left behind during the past
industrial revolutions.

Slide 8: The 4th Industrial Revolution will change not only

what we do but also who we are.
It will affect our identity and all the issues associated with it:
our privacy, our ownership, our consumption patterns, our
working time and leisure time, our careers development,
cultivate our skills, meet people, and nurture relationships.
It is already changing our health and leading to a “quantified”
self, and sooner than we think it may lead to human
augmentation.

Slide 9: Moving on to the Inventions and the Inventors.

Slide 10. When it comes to the early inventions, I believe

that the first and the most important invention of the
humanity is fire, so let’s watch a video of how human have
created the flames shall we?
The Invention of Fire | Cartoon Box 86 | By Frame ORDER

Slide 11: Fire is the foundation for human civilization. Day

by day, technology is improving and now, we have the latest
invention of robots. Robots and modern technological
equipments are use in various fields.

Slide 12:
 Manufacturing: this is probably the oldest and the most
well-known user of robots. They’re used to efficiently
test and assemble products like cars. It is estimated that
there are more than 3 million industrial robots in use
right now.
 Home: robots can be seen all over our homes, helping
with chores, reminding us of our schedules and even
entertaining our kids. The most famous houldhold robot
is the autonomous vacuum cleaner. Robots are now
evolved to help us with every thing from mowing grass
to cleaning pools.
 Travel: as we all know, the self-driving cars are no longer
just imagination. Thanks to data science and robotics,
we are now able to travel safely and quickly from place
to place using huge vehicles like airplanes and driverless
cars.
 Healthcare: robots are used in almost every aspect of
healthcare, from robotic system surgeries to helping
people’s recovery with physical therapy. For example:
toyota’s healthcare assistants which helps people regain
their walking ability; and robotics also play a crucial role
in fighting against the Covid-19.

Slide 13:
 Many people may not know, but Thales of Miletus who
lived in the 6th century BC, was the father of Western
philosophy and one of the first to explain natural
phenomena by science. He even invented mathematics.
How cool is that?
 Secondly, Leonardo da Vinci was an all-round genius.
Not only was he a legendary artist but he was also one
of the history’s most brilliant engineers. He invented the
helicopter and the battle tank. He drew plans for
submarines and robots. The list of his contributions to
the world of engineering is endless.
 The 3rd place will definitely go to Thomas Edison with
his invention of lightbulb in 1879. He is credited with
thousands of inventions. And I would say he’s the most
famous inventors of all time.
 Fourthly, Archimedes was one of the big names of
engineering in 3rd century BC. although few details of
his life are known, but we all know that we owe it to
Archimedes for inventing the pulley, the lever, the
catapult and the cog…
 And last but not least, Benjamin Franklin, also known as
a founding father of America. He’s the first American
scientist, and his legacy includes the lightning
conductor, bifocal lenses, and, a pioneer biological
scientist.

The Invention of Less | Animation Short Film
(I left my home in summer of 2031. Due to global warming,
there weren’t any possibilities for a young polar bear like me
than to leave my home and find luck somewhere else.
Somewhere else ended up being Zurich, Switzerland. At first I
was a bit anxious about how the humans would react to my
sudden appearance. But once I was there I actually got no
reaction at all. In my first weeks in Zurich I worked as an
Uber-carrier, which is the same job as an uber-driver but
instead of driving, we carried people. Because ever since self-
driving cars started being a thing in Zurich, the traffic
became a total mess. People didn’t realize that now all those
who couldn’t drive could drive. In the end the streets were
even more crowded than before. So uber-carry quickly
became one of the most popular apps in the city. Until there
were some… let’s say… unpleasant incidents. Actually the
whole ‘who is allowed to eat who’ aspect of living together
was quite confusing in the beginning. So after a short period
of protests from different sides. The government decided to
ban all kinds of meat, just to keep things peaceful. Those
initial incidents had lead to a shutdowm of uber-carry and I
found myself out of a job. It then came to my attention, that
the humans were willing to pay a huge amount of money
every few months for a new phone while their old phone was
totally fine. The next day I opened up my very first icePhone
shop. People could bring their old phone and get a new one.
Thanks to my innovative way of production, I could launch a
new generation of icePhones every two weeks for nearly no
costs and also very eco-friendly. While working in my store, I
discovered that humans love to travel to far away places.
Faraway places, that somehow look pretty similar to me. That
was the beginning of iceAir, my own airline. Well, airline
might be a bit exaggerated but my prices were good and
nobody ever complained. I was soon the only provider of
phones and flights. And as a side effect the cycle of
production was broken and the planet slowly started to
recover again. Even as the first humans started to realise my
scam, they liked this new healthy world. In the end I have to
say, the whole change wasn’t actually that difficult. I think all
it needed was somebody who looked at the problem from a
slightly different perspective.)

=> through Polar Bear’s story, we can somehow predict our

future. Where people are so dependent on electronic devices
that they no longer care about nature. Although we all know
that recovering the planet back to its healthy self is never an
easy job, we still hope that someday there will be a world-
changing idea like Polar Bear did.
Slide 15: Innovations and new modern inventions don’t
always bring positive influence on humanity and especially
the environment. Technology in agriculture has had many
negative effects on the environment, including water and air
pollution, reductions in biodiversity, and soil degradation.

Slide 16: So we’ve mentioned the revolution of the

inventions, how inventions are used due to human needs, the
inventors and even the negative effects of modern
inventions. To check if you paid attention, we have some
questions for you.

Q1: Name 2 inventors that we mentioned in the presentation?

Answer: Thomas Edison/Thales of Miletus/Leonardo da
Vinci/Archimedes/Benjamin Franklin.

Q2: Name 3 inventions that you use everyday?
