What is a Series?
• It is the sum of numbers
• The sum of the first n terms of the sequence is called finite
series. 𝑛

𝑎1 + 𝑎2 + 𝑎3 + 𝑎4 + ⋯ + 𝑎𝑛−1 + 𝑎𝑛 = ෍ 𝑎𝑖
𝑖=1

• The sum of all terms of the infinite sequence is called infinite

series. ∞

𝑖=1

Arithmetic
Sequence and Series
• If the differences between consecutive terms are the same.
𝑎2 − 𝑎1 = 𝑎3 − 𝑎2 = 𝑎4 − 𝑎3 = ⋯ = 𝑎𝑛 − 𝑎𝑛−1 = d

The other term for arithmetic sequence is arithmetic progression.

Where d is for the common difference.

𝑎𝑛 = 𝑎1 + 𝑛 − 1 𝑑
Example
