Group Project: Comprehensive Management Analysis


Introduction
In this a group project, you will delve into the fundamental aspects of management: planning,
organizing, leading, and controlling. By exploring these key functions, you will gain insights into
how managers effectively navigate the complexities of organizational dynamics. Your task is to
analyze a chosen hospitality and tourism related company, assessing how it applies these
management functions to achieve its objectives.

Project Objectives:
1. To understand the importance of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling in the
management process.
2. To analyze real-world applications of these management functions within an organization.
3. To evaluate the effectiveness of management practices in achieving organizational goals.
4. To propose recommendations for improving management strategies based on your analysis.

PROJECT INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Company Selection:
Choose a hospitality and tourism related company of your interest for analysis. It could be a
multinational corporation, a small business, a non-profit organization, or any other entity
with accessible information.

2. Planning Analysis:
 Describe the company's planning process by answering the following questions. What are
the organization’s mission and major goals?
 How do they formulate strategies to achieve those goals? Using SWOT analysis, evaluate
the effectiveness of the company's planning efforts. Are the goals specific, measurable,
achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART)?
 Critically analyze how the company adapts its plans in response to internal and external
changes.

3. Organizing Analysis:
 Examine how the company organizes its resources, including human resources, finances,
and physical assets, to achieve its objectives.
 Assess the organizational structure of the company. Is it centralized or decentralized?
Functional or divisional? Matrix or flat?
 Evaluate the alignment between the organizational structure and the company's goals and
strategies.

4. Leading Analysis:
 Analyze the leadership styles and practices within the company. How do leaders motivate,
inspire, and guide employees towards common goals?

 Evaluate the effectiveness of communication channels and decision-making processes


within the organization.
 Discuss how the company fosters a positive organizational culture and encourages employee
engagement and development.

5. Control Analysis:
 Examine the mechanisms used by the company to monitor and measure performance against
predetermined standards.
 Evaluate the effectiveness of control systems in identifying deviations from plans and taking
corrective actions.
 Discuss how the company balances the need for control with the autonomy and creativity of
its employees.

6. Recommendations:
 Based on your analysis, propose recommendations for improving the company's
management practices.
 Provide specific actionable suggestions for enhancing planning, organizing, leading, and
controlling functions. Justify your recommendations with reference to relevant management
theories and best practices.

7. Conclusion
 Wrap up your project with a summary (about 100 words) describing the overall contents of
your report

REPORT AND PRESENTATION GUIDELINES

Report and Presentation Format:


 Your project (both the report and presentation slides/ video) should be well-structured and
presented in a clear, concise manner.
 Use headings and subheadings to organize your analysis.
 Support your arguments with evidence from credible sources such as academic journals,
industry reports, and company publications.
 Ensure proper citation of sources using a consistent referencing style (APA 7th edition).
 Each group is given a maximum of 15 minutes for presentation.

Submission Guidelines:
 Submit your project (both the report and presentation slides/ video) in a digital format
according to the instructions provided by your instructor.
 Ensure that your project is free from spelling and grammatical errors.
 Include a title page with your name, student ID, course title, company’s name and date of
submission.

Report Deadline and Presentation:


 The deadline for submitting your project (both the report and presentation slides/ video) will
be communicated by your instructor.
 Mode of presentation (physical or online) will be communicated by your instructor.

Evaluation Criteria:
 Your project will be evaluated based on the depth of analysis, coherence of arguments, use
of evidence, clarity of writing and presentation, as well as the relevance of recommendations
to the chosen company.
 Allocation of marks (project report = 30 %, refer group project rubrics for details;
presentation = 20 %, refer presentation rubrics for details)
