Experiment Name: Simulation of Network Topologies (Star,Bus,Ring,Mesh,Tree)
Objective:
Use Cisco Packet Tracer to create and test different network layouts.
Description:
Star Topology: Every device in a star topology is connected to a hub or switch in the middle. By managing
and transmitting messages between devices, this hub or switch acts as the focal point.Benefits include ease of
setup, management, and troubleshooting. The network as a whole won’t be affected if one cable fails.
Drawbacks: The network as a whole falls down if the main hub or switch malfunctions.
Bus Topology: In a bus topology, every device is connected to a single backbone, or primary communication
line. All devices in this line receive data sent by one device.Benefits: Because it requires little cabling, it is
simple and reasonably priced. Cons: The network as a whole goes down if the primary cable fails, and it is not
highly scalable. Data collisions when more gadgets communicate,
Ring Topology: A ring topology creates a circular data channel by connecting each device to two others. Until
it reaches its destination, data travels in a single direction around the ring, passing through every device.
Benefits: It’s well-structured and effective at handling a reasonable volume of network traffic. Cons: If there
isn’t a backup path or dual-ring configuration in place, a single device failure could bring down the entire
network.
Mesh Topology: Every device is directly connected to every other device in a mesh network. Data can travel
over multiple channels between the devices thanks to this configuration. Benefits: The data can be delivered
via a backup method in case one route fails, making it incredibly dependable. Cons: It requires a lot of cords,
which raises the cost and complexity of setup.
Tree Topology: A network with a tree topology links connections in the form of stars in a bus configuration.
This configuration incorporates aspects of both bus and star topologies. Benefits include ease of expansion and
excellent performance on big networks. Cons: The entire network could be disrupted if the main backbone
cable breaks.

Discussion:
In Cisco Packet Tracer, we simulate various types of network topologies like Star, Bus, Ring,
Mesh, and Tree.
Star topology is easily usable for set up but depends on a central hub.
Bus topology is cost-effective but can cause data collisions.
Ring topology used for organized data flow but has the disadvantage of being vulnerable to
singlepoint failures.
Mesh topology offers high reliability, but it requires more cable networks.
Tree topology is scalable but can be at danger if the backbone cable network downs.
Every topologies has its own pros and cons making them more accessible for different network
requirements.
