Course Description
Core curriculum of the Data Analytics Essentials course covers foundational concepts and major skills and
tools required to excel as a data analyst. Students will quickly learn all the prerequisites required for
fundamentals of data analytics, such as Excel, R Programming, Descriptive and Inferential Statistics.
Program Specific Objectives (PSO):
1. PSO 1: This programme equips the students with business perspectives and imparts theoretical knowledge
on data science tools
2. PSO 2: This programme enables the students to become well versed with analytical tools, explore careers
as data analyst, quantitative analyst, research analyst etc.
Course Objectives (CO):
1. Data Analytics is designated to introduce the concepts of statistical analysis skills to undergraduate
students.
2. The course introduces basic statistical concepts in enough detail to support their use in business data
analysis and better decision-making using Probability.
3. Signify the importance of statistical results in drawing appropriate conclusions in a study using
sampling and distributions
4. Choosing the correct statistical test to analyze results for interpreting the various types of
distributions and detect anomalies and skewness in data
5. The course also aims at providing basic knowledge in the use of R language as a statistical tool.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
On completion of this course, student should be able to
 Equip themselves with fundamental concepts and tools needed to understand the emerging role of
data analytics in organizations
 Learn how to apply business analytics tools in a spreadsheet environment such as Microsoft Excel
and R
 Learn how to effectively use and interpret analytic models and results for better business decisions
 Acquire the knowledge of inferential statistics and use them for research decisions and findings
 Present and summarize data using Statistical programming languages like R and GUIs like MS-Excel
