The Conversion of the Philippian Jailer (Acts16:25-40)

At about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing
hymns to God. Suddenly, there was a great earthquake which shook
the foundations of the prison, threw all the doors open, and the
prisoners' chains broke loose. The jailer awoke and saw the opened
prison doors, thinking all the prisoners had escaped. He drew his
sword and was about to kill himself but Paul cried out to him:
“Do not harm yourself, for we are all here.”(Acts 16:28)
The jailer rushed in trembling with fear, fell before Paul and Silas and
asked what he must do to be saved. They told him to believe in the
Lord Jesus. He took them home, washed their wounds and fed them.
They preached the Good News to him and his household, they
believed and were all baptized.
The next day, the magistrates sent word to release the apostles but
they refused. Paul said:
“They have beaten us publicly, uncondemned, men who are
Roman citizens, and have thrown us into prison; and do they now
throw us out secretly? No! Let them come themselves and take us
out.”
When the magistrates heard they were Romans, they were
afraid. They went and apologized to them, took them out and asked
them to leave the city. They visited Lydia and the other brethren to
bid them farewell before leaving the city.

Paul meets Opposition in Thessalonica (Acts 17:1-9)

When the apostles left Philippi, they went to Thessalonica
where there was a Jewish synagogue.
Paul spent three (3) weeks arguing with the Jews about the
scripture explaining that it was necessary for Christ to suffer, die and
rise from the dead. He proclaimed Jesus as the Christ.
Some of the God-fearing Greeks, some Jews and a few prominent
women were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas. The other Jews
were jealous and set the city in confusion. They attacked the house
of Jason where the apostles were staying. When they could not find
them, they dragged Jason before the city authorities.
They accused Paul and Silas of acting against the decrees of
Caesar (The Roman Emperor) by saying that there is another king,
Jesus. The city authorities and people were disturbed. They collected
security (fine) from Jason and others before releasing them.
That night, the believers sent Paul and Silas away to Berea.
