collected data, you can find our conclusion below.

• Ease of Deployment: Some users of Blue Prism find deployment to be

simple. However, there are also a few reviewers that say it has a medium
level of difficulty and can be complex, especially as the number of
applications increases. In contrast, users of Microsoft Power Automate
generally find deployment to be straightforward.

• Features: Valuable features of both Blue Prism and Microsoft Power

Automate include ease of use and stability.

Valuable features of Blue Prism include scalability, flexibility, reliability, and

robustness. Reviewers would like to see improvement in the laggy control
room and also mention that the user interface could be better.

automation, native integration with other Microsoft products, and drag-and-
drop functionality. Users mention that they find the scalability to be
unreliable, and say that the product does not handle complicated tasks very
well.

Blue Prism vs. Microsoft Power Automate

• Pricing: Reviewers feel that Blue Prism is expensive. Microsoft Power

Automate users find the pricing to be reasonable and also point out that
there is a free trial version.

• Service and Support: Users of Blue Prism express that the technical support
is good. Only a few Microsoft Power Automate users have had experience
using the technical support, and for those that did use it, they mention it
was unhelpful.

Comparison Results: The two solutions have similar ratings with regard to ease
of use and stability. However, Blue Prism seems to be slightly more favorable
because even though it is more expensive, it has a lot of great features to offer,
and also has good service and support, unlike Microsoft Power Automate.

Reviews from Real Users

Blue Prism stands out for its enterprise-level functionality, which is why many companies
choose it over its competitors. PeerSpot users note that the solution is easy to use, stable, and
robust scalability-wise. The security is also top-notch. One user pointed out that "One of the
most powerful features in Blue Prism is exception handling. It's one of the features that really
differentiates it from other platforms." Blue Prism helps businesses with everything from
compliance to quality control and error-avoidance.

What users had to say about valuable features:

My company uses some of the knowledge skills from Blue Prism.

The most effective feature of the product revolves around the area of application
designer with which a user can interact with most of the different applications.
SAP, Excel, and the web are all areas that one can easily integrate into Blue Prism.

The product's scalability feature's flexible nature has had an impact on our
customer's business processes. My company initially started with three robots, but
now, we are at eleven. The product offers flexibility, and it is possible to increase
its use easily.

“We've automated web applications in the banking domain using Blue Prism. This
involved automating long and complex banking processes. Every action we
automate with the tool generates an audit log, which is safe within the LogRhythm
environment. I do find the Decipher feature very useful when it comes to
document automation. ”

“The advantage of the solution is the automation we can do with the solution. We
are saving a few dollars by automating tasks that we used to complete manually by
allocating two or three resources in front of the system. Also, by automating, the
margin of error becomes very low. The security feature of the solution is also quite

“It's hard to make a definitive statement as we work with the tools available to us.
While I haven't had much exposure to the latest version of WorkFusion, I've heard
good things about it.

I switched from another RPA platform to Blue Prism, and I personally appreciate
the way they handle queues and their overall approach.

Blue Prism is a typical RPA platform that uses a low-code approach with its own
strengths and weaknesses. I don't have any specific details to share about Blue
Prism at the moment.

I find Blue Prism's debugging functionality to be quite useful.

“For one, it's easy to set up, and once it gets running it can handle multiple
processes in an efficient manner. It's a very robust system.

Another nice thing is that, due to Blue Prism being a market leader in its industry,
we often get people who are already highly familiar with it compared to other
products. This was one of the main reasons why we went for it in the first place.

“Blue Prism features two layers of documentation. If we could make it in one

layer, then it would be easy to develop, and it would take less time for
developers to complete the task.”

Renjith Raghunathan
RPA Team Lead Developer at Standard Chartered Bank

“The tool needs to work on its security aspect since there is a lot of
regulatory compliance for enterprises like the GDPR. The product needs to
improve the data login policy as well. They also need to come up with a
mechanism where every change and upgrade happens within the element of
the target application. Our partner struggles to keep up with the
cybersecurity guidelines of my company.”

“The OCR capability, along with the connectivity with some of the legacy
tools, needs to be improved.”

Room for improvement:

“Blue Prism as a product is very good, but it doesn't have additional features, like
UiPath, which offers features in areas like attended and unattended automation.
Blue Prism doesn't have an attended automation feature. The tour also doesn't
offer features that can help in areas like document understanding and PDF
reading. Though Blue Prism has now come up with features like decipher and
computer vision, it is still not able to address most of the issues, making it an area
of concern where improvements are required. From an improvement perspective, I
believe that Blue Prism needs to have more skilled people in its support team who
can address the issues of users immediately.”

enhancements in the Object Explorer and Application Model features to ensure
stability in upcoming versions. I have suggested a few ideas, such as incorporating

“I don't think we can do the reporting and documentation in Blue Prism without
using any third-party tool. I don't think the kind of reporting features that Power
BI and Tableau provide are available in Blue Prism. Blue Prism is mainly for process
automation and not reporting, but maybe they can add a reporting feature.”

“The tasks we use it for performed well, although there may be some minor issues
with the 6.10 version. However, like every software, it is possible for it to have its
own shortcomings that will eventually be addressed. In our business processes, we
encountered an issue with a selector that stopped working, but we were able to
create a workaround for it since it was only affecting one selector in one area. I
don't think it's fair to place all the blame on Blue Prism because the application we
were automating was heavily reliant on JavaScript, which caused difficulties in
building the user interface. In my opinion, every platform would have faced similar
challenges when automating such an application. However, we were able to
resolve the issue and move forward with upgrading the system. I am not aware of
any problems that other teams may have encountered, so I can't say for sure. I
can't immediately think of any specific features either. I would need to take some
time to consider it and discuss it with our team before making any definitive
statements.”

at roughly 18 months. I rate the overall ROI a six out of ten. It is just a little bit

long term because our businesses are changing, and the time to use the robot was
short.

“When the DOC team shares our stats with the operations department, we
quantify the potential cost savings of using a particular automation solution.
Generally, we speak in terms of the number of full-time employees used for a
particular process. So, if there are 10 people working to complete a particular
task, how many people do we need after implementing Blue Prism? If the
remaining work is being completed by seven people after the implementation of
RPA, then we have saved 30% using Blue Prism.

“The billing is on a yearly basis. They send us the bill every year. My business unit
is billed by the technology team, so I don't know exactly how much they pay. In my
business unit, we have our first-year license costs, and then we have our ongoing
costs. Our bots cost projected per license is $8,600. Our projected support cost for
every year is about $38,000. Our operation agent costs anywhere between $50,000
to $55,000, so the saving is there, but it is still kind of expensive for us, but I'm
looking at it from the technology kind of billing us for it. This is the cost that we
have for our technology team, which is different from the licensing of Blue Prism.”

Setup
The setup process involves configuring and preparing the product or service for use, which may
include tasks such as installation, account creation, initial configuration, and troubleshooting any
issues that may arise. Below you can find real user quotes about the setup process.

The product's initial setup phase is not very easy. I rate the initial setup phase a
seven scale of one to ten, where ten means the tool offered a very setup process.
The setup process can be managed by an expert.

The solution is deployed on an on-premises model.

The solution can be deployed within two to three weeks.

“The tool's installation is easier than that of other RPA tools. When deploying a
process to production, we ensure that we work in a separate, unmonitored
environment with restricted access. We install a centralized application server on
a separate machine to avoid database load issues. Additionally, access restrictions
are enforced so that only authorized personnel with restricted access can deploy
packages in the production environment.

The deployment time for one process varies depending on its complexity.
Complex processes could take one to two months or even longer. Testing and
deployment typically take about two to three weeks for a single person working on
a process from design to development.

A dedicated support team facilitates maintenance, especially when best practices

are followed and a robust solution design is in place. However, the ease of
maintenance also depends on the applications involved in the process.”

“The deployment and migration process of the solution is very easy. Users won't
find any complexity while migrating from one version to another version, and
upgradation is quite easy to do. The installation and configuration don't take much
time, but we had to move Blue Prism hosting from AWS to Azure, which consisted
of hundreds of processes, and took four to six months to move from Blue Prism 6.4
to 6.10.

But we didn't witness any kind of complexity, and whenever a user gets stuck, they
can reach out to the Blue Prism team; they are always there to help the user. For
installation and deployment, we have two senior members with ten to twelve years
of experience who take care of the platform or server tasks. If there is any issue,
they will look into it.

The work process we have set using this solution is very easy, and we can connect
to the support team to overcome an issue. Maintenance of the solution is not
difficult; if you have one or two people to look into the server and platform, then
they can maintain a hundred processes in the environment. You don't need five to
six people to maintain and run a hundred processes. We have integrated Blue
Prism with Decipher and Ultima IA-Connect.”

“The biggest challenge is at the infrastructure layer, especially if you're doing on-
prem. Getting all the network and firewalls and all of that sorted out because many
clients want you to use the robot on the production systems, but the production
systems are in tightly controlled network environments. It normally means
opening a firewall, subnetting, and all that kind of stuff. But getting the software
up and running and getting the agents up and running, all that type of stuff, that's
pretty straightforward.

On the cloud side of things, it's providing access from the cloud platform to on-
prem data. So it's more client-specific security and networking issues that are the
challenge versus installing the software if you do on-prem or configuring it if you
do it in the cloud.”

Customer Service and Support

The product's customer support is responsive, but they take a lot of time. My
company is in India, while most of the clients of Blue Prism are in the US, which is
why the solution provides different support teams for different areas. The
product's support team took a lot of time to provide a resolution for a couple of
issues related to the tool, even though different teams from the UK and the US
were involved in the process of helping my company. Sometimes, people are
required on the field to offer support services.

I rate the support team a seven out of ten.

platinum implementation partner or a platinum client, you obviously get better

with Blue Prism from the beginning, so we have a bit of a privilege for this.

The difference is UiPath, you are part of the community, and getting support from

some issues after installing the latest update. So we decided not to install the

Most of the time, they say it is a known issue and will fix it with the next update.

Blue Prism vs. Microsoft Power Automate ▪ Blue Prism

Other Solutions Considered

“Previously, we worked with WorkFusion.

If we compare Blue Prism and WorkFusion, Blue Prism is typically considered a

low-code platform, while WorkFusion is a coding platform. However, it's worth
noting that both platforms offer varying degrees of low-code and coding
capabilities, and the exact level of coding required will depend on the specific use
case and implementation.

Although you can program in Java or a specific XML-like language, it still involves
writing code. I wouldn't say that this is a bad thing.

As a developer myself, I actually prefer writing code. When using Blue Prism, I
often find myself having to rearrange blocks in order to create more space for
additional blocks I need to add. However, if you're writing code, you don't have to
worry about that issue.

Perhaps for an average business user, Blue Prism would be easier to learn.
However, Blue Prism requires more planning and preparation compared to
Automation Anywhere before starting to code. It's more similar to regular
development rather than ad-hoc development.

To give an example, in Automation Anywhere, you could start developing a robot

without any prior planning in the tool. You could simply throw in 10 or 12 blocks,
and that would do the job. It would be a simple robot. However, with Blue Prism,
you need to do some planning and preparation before you start coding.

It's more like regular development, unlike Automation Anywhere which is more
like at-home development. Blue Prism may be easier for business users to work
with as it has a more visual system, whereas WorkFusion is more code-based and
deployable.

I stopped working with WorkFusion about three years ago, so my information may
be obsolete.”

Functionality-wise, Blue Prism and Power Automate are two completely different

available within an office environment. They can be used interchangeably, but at
the same time, Blue Prism allows for more complex automations to be
performed.”

“I've considered other options because of how Blue Prism's product and its
acquisition by ACM have shaped its direction. Blue Prism seems to be moving into
a more confined space and may not be as open as UiPath.

In UiPath, the ecosystem just feels a lot broader, and there's a lot more innovation
and commercial models.

With Blue Prism, everyone wants to charge for everything, whereas in UiPath, you
know, the community guard. There's a lot of really good stuff and useful stuff
coming out of the community guard that are solving problems because they need
to be solved, not necessarily because there's a business model or a commercial
model sitting behind it.

Blue Prism is definitely more about the seats and tires, whereas UiPath is for the
sneakers and jeans guys.”

What users had to say about valuable features:

“The email routing and management features are strong, as is the report
consolidation functionality.

The integration itself is good. I have not tried many complex workflows in it
because of the different limitations. For every plugin, I need to add some money.
It's not coming as a bundle.

But the basic flows look okay.

The ability to integrate with third-party services works well. However, there are
frequent prompts for login and credentials, especially when interacting with
server-based resources.”

Room for improvement:

“Power Automate has fewer features and more limitations in general. It's not as
mature a product as some of the others, like UiPath or Automate Anywhere. One of
the main issues I've found is that Power Automate struggles with accessing Excel
or other Office documents on servers. Even though it's a Microsoft product, we
often have to log in through remote systems, and syncing can be problematic due
to the way we use servers. At the very least, they should provide access to Office
365 directly, without requiring additional logins on servers. Most people utilizing
Power Automate are already working within the Office 365 environment. Any proof
of concepts (POCs) using Power Automate would naturally be built on top of Office
365.”

“Firstly, enhancing Power Automate to work synchronously instead of

asynchronously would eliminate the need for additional coding, saving time in
project implementation. Secondly, addressing the limitations on the number of
processes in Power Automate tracking would enhance its usability and flexibility
for various scenarios. Incorporating a more intuitive user interface or experience
would be beneficial for overall solution implementation. While PowerApps can
provide this to some extent, it faces limitations, particularly with large datasets.
Overcoming these challenges through enhancements or optimization would be
valuable for implementing enterprise-class solutions effectively.”

“We need to buy a premium license for Microsoft Power Automate because some
features are only available for premium licenses. It would be really helpful if
Microsoft offered some premium features in the standard version. Instead of
bringing everything to the standard version, it would be really helpful if Microsoft
classified one or two important things as standard, which are regularly worked
upon. The solution's licensing model is very complex and not straightforward. The
licensing model needs to be reviewed and changed. Sometimes, Microsoft Power

“There is room for improvement in web scraping. Specifically, automatic selectors

that allow me to select parts of a website could be more adaptable. Currently, if you

This can cause issues because the bot may stop running without fine manual
tuning, especially if the website also has active tags loaded. In the next release, it
could be useful to integrate data tables directly into the spreadsheet without
having to go through a loop. Integrated databases could be a good addition.”

The whole deployment process took around three weeks, end-to-end.

It starts with gathering the requirements. I asked the ops team to give me their
exact steps and techniques. Then, based on that, we build the documentation for
the step-by-step process. We mirror this process and try to replicate those steps
from the RPA. Then we move on to the UET cases and go through them. If
everything goes well, we will provide a sign-off and release it into production.”

“It is comparatively easy to install. I would rate it eight out of ten. It will require
some knowledge due to the kind of setup it has. Also, considering the security
reasons of Microsoft, it predominantly requires the infrastructure set within its
domain. It cannot go out of its domain. So understanding all the nuances of it is
essential.

Other platforms are not cloud diagnostic; they are on-premise also. But as an
organization, Microsoft is not reporting that they would want to have everything
on-premise on the cloud. So, understanding all the nuances and recommending
that you get the right kind of security approvals done will be important because
certain customers are not comfortable with having the PAT agent configured in
such a way that it gives the data to the cloud. Microsoft is on. They are not
comfortable with it.”

issues, the partner takes the necessary steps.”

How was the initial setup?

“The setup of Blue Prism is quite simple. We have the three-tier architecture
database applications from the client that comes in the form of a development or
production machine.

The deployment took almost a year to roll out the pilot automation. We started in
early 2019 and completed it only by the end of that year.”

What about the implementation team?

UiPath or Automation Anywhere. This is one of the main drawbacks.

For how long have I used the solution?

“We have been using Softomotive for between three and four years.”

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

“It is stable, and we don't have any issues with this particular product as of today.
We plan to continue using it in the future.”

Blue Prism vs. Microsoft Power Automate ▪ Customer Review

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

“We have more than 600 customers who use this product.”

How are customer service and support?

“We get very good support from Softomotive.”

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

“We have used Softomotive for the past four to five years, although in the interim
we tested Blue Prism. The cost of that product is too high.”

How was the initial setup?

“The installation is straightforward and we haven't seen any complexity. It will

take 15 minutes, maximum, to deploy.”

What about the implementation team?

“This is a product that I can easily deploy on my own. We have less than 15 people
on-site who are responsible for deployment and maintenance.”

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

“This is a cost-effective product and now that it has been acquired by Microsoft,
we don't expect the cost to increase with the next release.”

What other advice do I have?

“Considering the kind of experience that we have had with Softomotive, we would
always recommend this product.

Since this product was acquired by Microsoft, naturally the expectation has gone
up. We are not expecting too much of an architectural change, but rather, a few of
the small features should be added. The reason is that you like to stay competitive
in terms of cost. We have already deployed it to more than 600 customers and if we
are going to charge them more, then they'll be inclined to use another product.

I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.”
