INTRODUCTION
In this project, we will show you how to design a simple flame fingerprint sensor
based electronic voting Machine using Arduino and Processing. Recently creating a
secure and user-friendly voting system using Arduino, along with an R307 fingerprint
sensor, a 16×2 LCD display, and a push button. By integrating biometric fingerprint
recognition, clear visual feedback, and a simple user interface, we can develop an efficient
and reliable voting system. Democracy thus encourages individual freedom according to
the rule of law, so that people may behave and express themselves as they choose. This
not only gives people a chance to choose their leaders, but also to freely express their
views on issues. The implementation of electronic voting would allow increased access to
the voting process for millions of potential voters. Higher levels of voter participation will
lend greater legitimacy to the electoral process and should help to reverse the trend
towards voter apathy that is fast becoming a feature of many democratic societies. It is
also recognized that more traditional voting methods will exist for some time to come, so
a means is needed to make these more efficient and integrate them with the newer
electronic methods

LITERATURE SURVEY

The Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) delivered a prototype of a

simple electronic voting machine to the Election Commission of India (ECI).Vishal Vilas
Natu proposed the voting system is completely depending on the paper works and
electronic machine. There is more paper work to save the information of voter and voter
and must go to ballet box by carrying voter ID for aunthentication. Once authentication is
done by election executive then voter donate their vote by using Electronic machine. The
machine consist of list of candidate and presents multiple buttons in front of their
particular name by Pushing the button over can donate their vote to candidate. To
overcome this tradional election system there has to studied of digital technology and their
security. When the election period ends, all these boxes are opened and votes are counted
manually is presence of the certified offiacalls. In this process there can be error in
counting of votes or in some faces voters find ways to vote more than once. Sometimes
votes are even maupulated to distort the results of an election in favour of certain
candidates the proposed electronic voting system can be implemented along with the
traditional election system. The Balloting Unit will be kept inside the voting compartment.
Primarily, the voter needs to get his voter ID checked and verified with the list. If he is
eligible, then he will be permitted to vote. The voter then can make his choice by pressing
the switch on the balloting unit to a particular party. Illegal voting can be done as one
candidate can poll the vote of other members in the electoral list.

METHODOLOGY

The system aims at developing a fingerprint based advanced Electronic Voting

Machine (EVM) which helps in free and fair way of conducting elections which are
basis for democratic country like India. This project consists of following units a Voting
system, fingerprint module and Arduino controller Unit. The voter first puts his finger
on the fingerprint module which checks for the authentication of the user. If the voter is
the authenticated one, he will now poll his vote in the voting system by simply pressing
button against his favorite leader through a button. The control unit consists of a
Arduino controller, push button for different operations of EVM. The votes casted for
particular candidate in that particular section of constituency is shown through an LCD
display. To perform this task. The achieves our objective of ensuring a secured method
of validating voters before they are allowed to cast their votes. Voters will
authenticated by verifying unique identity details password by them.

CONTROL SECTION :

Arduino UNO :

Fig: Arduino UNO

The Arduino Uno can be powered via the USB connection or with an external power supply. The
power source is selected automatically. External (non-USB) power can come either from an AC-to-DC
adapter (wall-wart) or battery. The adapter can be connected by plugging a 2.1mm center-positive plug
into the board's power jack. Leads from a battery can be inserted in the Gnd and Vin pin headers of the
POWER connector. The board can operate on an external supply of 6 to 20 volts. If supplied with less
than 7V, however, the 5V pin may supply less than five volts and the board may be unstable. If using
more than 12V, the voltage regulator may overheat and damage the board. The recommended range is
7 to 12 volts. Rather than requiring a physical press of the reset button before an upload, the Arduino
Uno is designed in a way that allows it to be reset by software running on a connected computer. One
of the hardware flow control lines (DTR) of the ATmega8U2 is connected to the reset line of the
ATmega328 via a 100 nano faraday capacitor. When this line is asserted (taken low), the reset
line drop enough to reset the chip. The Arduino software uses this capability to allow you to upload
code by simplypressing the upload button in the Arduino environment. This means that the bootloader
can have a shorter timeout, as the lowering of DTR can be well- coordinated with the start of the
upload. The Uno contains a trace that can be cut to disable the auto-reset. The pads on either side of the
trace can be soldered together to re-enable it. It's labeled "RESET-EN".

 Lcd display:

Fig: LCD DISPLAY

A display is made up of millions of pixels. The quality of a display commonly refers to the number
of pixels; for example, a 4K display is made up of 3840 x2160 or 4096x2160 pixels. A pixel is made

up of three subpixels; a red, blue and green—commonly called RGB. When the subpixels in a pixel
change colour combination, a different colour can be produced. With all the pixels on a display
working together, the display can make millions of different colours.

 Buzzer

Basically, the sound source of a piezoelectric sound component is a piezoelectric diaphragm. A

piezoelectric diaphragm consists of a piezoelectric ceramic plate which has electrodes on both sides
and a metal plate (brass or stainless steel, etc.). A piezoelectric ceramic plate is attached to a metal
plate with adhesives. Applying D.C. voltage between electrodes of a piezoelectric diaphragm causes
mechanical distortion due to the piezoelectric effect. For a misshaped piezoelectric element, the
distortion of the piezoelectric element expands in a radial direction. To interface a buzzer the standard
transistor interfacing circuit is used. Note that if a different power supply is used for the buzzer, the 0V
rails of each power supply must be connected to provide a common reference. To switch on buzzer -

 Fingerprint Module:
Fingerprint Identification module defined as TTL UART interface that offers direct connections to
microcontroller UART or to PC through MAX232 / USB-Serial adapter. This sensor stores the user’s
fingerprint data and configures it in 1:1 or 1: N mode for identifying the person. This module operates
in a wide range of applications such as building electric safes, home automation projects, attendance
related projects, etc Fingerprint module processing consists of two parts; Fingerprint Enrollment and
Fingerprint Matching (the matching can be 1:1 or 1:N). During the enrolling process, the user needs to
enter the fingerprint two times. And the system will process finger images twice. Thus generates a
template of the finger based on processing results and thus store the template. During matching, the
user enters the finger through an optical sensor and the system will generate a template of the finger.
This template is compared with the template in the finger library. For 1:1 matching, the live finger is
compared with a specific template designated in the Module. Whereas for 1:N matching, the system
will search the whole finger library for the matching finger.

FUTURE SCOPE

Memory of finger print module can be expanded. We can use a 1mb flash memory fingerprint
module for increasing the capacity. External memory can be provided for storing the fingerprint image,
which can be later accessed for comparison. Smart Card reader module is supposed to be introduced with
the existing module for further security, and to reduce the database storage. Audio output can be
introduced to make it user friendly for illiterate voters. Retina scanning can also be developed.

“ ELECTRONIC VOTING MACHINE USING FINGERPRINT SENSOR”.

CONCLUSION

For over a century, fingerprints have been one of the most highly used methods for human recognition;
automated biometric systems have only been available in recent years. The work successfully
implemented and evaluated. The arrived results were significant and more comparable. It proves the fact
that the fingerprint image enhancement step will certainly improve the verification performance of the
fingerprint-based recognition system. Because fingerprints have a generally broad acceptance with the
general public, law enforcement and the forensic science community, they will continue to be used with
many governments legacy systems and will be utilized in new systems for evolving applications that
require a reliable biometric. This biometric voting system would enable hosting of fair elections in India.
This will preclude the illegal practices like rigging. The citizens can be sure that they alone can choose
their leaders, thus exercising their right in the democracy.
