Our world is changing, and many creatures are paying the price. Here are the species
most at risk of extinction, along with their native habitats:

1. Koala
Native to Australia, koalas are vulnerable due to habitat loss and climate
change. The Australian Koala Foundation reported in 2019 that they may be
"functionally extinct," although this is debated.
2. Saola
Also known as the "Asian unicorn," the Saola is native to the Annamite
Mountains along the border of Vietnam and Laos. Its habitat is threatened,
and there may be as few as a few dozen left in the wild.
3. Sea Turtles
Sea turtles are found in oceans worldwide, but species like the hawksbill turtle
are critically endangered, particularly in regions such as the Caribbean, Indo-
Pacific, and East African coasts.
4. Gorillas
Eastern gorillas are native to the tropical forests of Central Africa, including
countries like Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Cross-
river gorillas are found along the Nigeria-Cameroon border.
5. Pangolin
Pangolins are found across Asia and Africa, with different species native to
countries like China, Vietnam, and the Philippines in Asia, and Nigeria, Ghana,
and South Africa in Africa.
6. Vaquita
The vaquita is native to the Gulf of California in Mexico. This small marine
mammal is critically endangered, with fewer than 10 individuals left due to
illegal gill net fishing.
7. Sumatran Elephant
Native to the island of Sumatra in Indonesia, the Sumatran elephant is critically
endangered due to habitat loss, with two-thirds of its habitat destroyed in the
past 25 years.
8. Black Rhinoceros
Black rhinos are found in Eastern and Southern Africa, particularly in countries
like Kenya, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. Poaching for their horns has made
them critically endangered.
9. Sumatran Orangutan
Native to the island of Sumatra, Indonesia, the Sumatran orangutan is critically
endangered due to deforestation, largely driven by the palm oil industry.
10. Amur Leopard
The Amur leopard is native to the temperate forests of Eastern Russia and
Northeastern China. With only 60 to 100 individuals left, the species is one of
the most endangered big cats in the world.
