What is a Computer?
A computer is an electronic device that can accept data (input), process it, and produce
information (output).
Basic Components of a Computer
1. Hardware:
○ Input Devices: Keyboard, mouse, scanner, microphone
○ Output Devices: Monitor, printer, speakers
○ Processing Unit: Central Processing Unit (CPU)
○ Storage Devices: Hard Disk Drive (HDD), Solid State Drive (SSD), RAM
2. Software:
○ System Software: Operating System (OS) like Windows, macOS, Linux
○ Application Software: Word processors, spreadsheets, games
How a Computer Works
1. Input: Data is entered into the computer through input devices.
2. Processing: The CPU processes the data according to instructions given by software.
3. Storage: Processed data is stored in storage devices for future use.
4. Output: The results of processing are displayed on output devices.
Basic Computer Skills
● Operating a Computer: Turning it on, shutting it down, using a mouse and keyboard.
● Using a Web Browser: Navigating websites, searching for information.
● Email: Sending and receiving emails.
