Module#2 Presentation of Data

Forms of Presentation of Data – method by which the data are organized and
summarized to communicate information using variety of tools such as tables, graphs,
and diagrams.
Principles of Presentation
- Data should be presented in simple form
- Arouse interest in reader
- Should be concise but without important details
- Facilitate further statistical analysis

A) Textual
This form of presentation combines text and numerical facts in paragraphs to explain the
summary of data gathered. It usually discusses the highlights of the data

B) Tabular
This form of presentation uses statistical table that shows the data in a more concise
and systematic manner. The table facilitates the analysis of relationships of data.
It consists of rows and column or row and the numerical figures for various
classifications are written in its respective cells.
Advantage of Tabular Presentation
- Provides reader a good grasp of the meaning of the quantitative relationship of the data
presented in the report.
- Systematic arrangement of columns and rows make the table understandable
- Facilitate comparison
- Shows the whole picture of the data and making decision making will be easier
- Saves time for the reader to analyze and interpret data.
Example of Tabulation

Practice Exercise#1 Data Analysis

1) Is the given tabulation a grouped or ungrouped data?
2) Who has the highest number of people playing sport?
3) Who has the lowest number of people playing sport?
4) What is the average number of people playing sport?
5) What is the median of the given data?
6) What is the mode?

Graphical
- It is the most effective means of organizing and presenting statistical data. The data
using graphical shows important relationship of data that can easily be seen.
Different Kinds of Graphs and Charts
Pie Chart
- This represents of the different components of a particular data. It shows the ideal graph
for partition of a whole. The total area of a circle is equivalent to 100%. The angles or
sectors should be proportional to the percentage components of the data.
Example#1 Example 2

Line Graph
- This kind of data presentation shows the relationship between two sets of quantities.
This is done by plotting the points of X set of quantities along the horizontal axis and the
Y set of quantities along the vertical axis in a Cartesian coordinate plane. Focusing on
the first quadrant. The plotted points will be connected by line segments, which finally
form the line graph.
Example 1
Practice Exercise#2
1) What is the horizontal axis
representing?
2) What is the vertical axis
representing?
3) Which month/s are the
highest bicycle sold?
Scatter Point Diagram
- Points are plotted in a Cartesian plan. It is like making a line graph except that there is
no need to connect the points.

Pictogram or Picture Graph

- It is a visual presentation of statistical data by means of drawing actual pictures or
symbols related to the subject under study. Legends are used to represent the
magnitude of single unit of picture

Example 2:

Practice Exercise
1. In a taste test conducted at Genshin Impact and Honkai Starrail Mart, 200 people were
asked to taste 5 different flavors of new tetra pack juice drinks and to report which one
they preferred. The results are listed below:
Flavor Frequency
Pineapple 50
Grapes 27
Orange 70
Mango 40
Strawberry 13

a. Draw a bar graph

b. Draw a pie chart
c. What flavor is preferred by most drinkers?
d. What flavor is next preferred by most drinkers?
e. What do the charts tell you about the sample of juice drinkers?
f. If you were the owner of the grocery mart, what would be the significance of the taste
test results?
2. In Universidad de Montalban, Algebra is a prerequisite for the Statistics subject. A
sample of 15 students was drawn. The final grades in Algebra and Statistics of every
student were recorded. The data are listed below:

Student Algebra Statistics

1 88 86
2 98 95
3 76 75
4 72 70
5 69 71
6 75 78
7 66 71
8 92 88
9 80 75
10 86 90
11 77 69
12 90 84
13 77 81
14 82 87
15 70 79

a. Draw a scatter point diagram of the given data.

b. What relationship exists between the grades of students in Algebra and Statistics?
c. When a student got the highest score in Algebra, would you expect him to receive the
highest score in Statistics?

3. The guidance counseling office of a university conducted a five-year post-graduation

survey to determine the types of jobs their graduates were performing. A sample of 250
graduates of the university was interviewed. The responses were tallied and
summarized below:

Job Category Frequency

Managerial 65
Clerical 90
Skilled Workers 45
Unemployed 15
Underemployed 35

a. Use an appropriate graphical technique to summarize and present the data.

b. Analyze the graph and interpret about the performance of graduate based on the given
data.
4. A survey was conducted in a community to assess the feasibility of opening a coffee
shop business. A group of 50 respondents was asked about the frequency of their visits
to a coffee shop in a month. The responses are listed below:

5 5 12 16 11
30 12 10 14 12
10 15 15 20 15
