What is a Communication Aid?


A communication aids are visual support used to make presentation interesting and effective. it is a
great help to present the ideas clearly by highlighting the significant information.

Communication aids are also referred to as AAC devices. AAC refers to Augmentative and Alternative
Communication, which is defined as,
… a huge range of techniques which support or replace spoken communication.

Communication is the exchange of information between a sender and a receiver.

TYPES OF COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES


1. Verbal
Verbal communication strategies can be broken down into the two categories of written and oral
communication.
2. Nonverbal
Nonverbal communication strategies consist of mostly visual cues, such as body language, facial
expressions, physical distance between communicators, or the tone of your voice.
3. Visual
Visual communication strategies can be seen through signs, web pages, and illustrations.

A transparency, also known variously as a view foil, or view graph, is a thin sheet of transparent flexible

PREPARING AUDIO VISUAL and WEB BASED PRESENTATION

DIFFERENCES OF AUDIO and VIDEO


AUDIO
-sound within the acoustic range available to humans.
-in computer sound is an analog signal that are converted to digital signals called analog-to-digital
converter.
-relating to acoustic, mechanical, or electrical frequencies corresponding to normally audible sound
waves which are from 20 to 20,000 hertz.

VIDEO
-is an electronic medium for recording, copying, playback, broadcasting and display of moving visual
media.

PREPARING AUDIO VISUAL AIDS


GENERAL GUIDELINES
 keep audio and visual aid simple.
 use one aid to convey one concept.
 color is more effective in getting and keeping the audience's attention

TEXT ON VISUAL AIDS


 should be written in point form, not in paragraph form.
 one inch lettering is visible at 30 feet, two inches at sixty feet, and so on.
 don't let the audience see your next pages.
 use water based pens because they leak through less than permanent markers.

DIAGRAMS AND CHARTS ON VISUAL AIDS


 graphically represent complex issues and ideas.
 use bar graphs or pie chart to represent numbers.

USE OF AUDIO AND VISUAL AIDS PRIOR TO THE PRESENTATION


DO's
 ensure everything runs smoothly.
 do a quick rehearsal in the room.
 make sure each aid is appropriate for the size of the room and can be seen.

DURING the PRESENTATION


 use a variety of audio and visual aids, but do not overuse audio aids.
 ensure the use of audio and visual aids does not interrupt the flow of presentation.
 bring the visual aid if it's ready to use it and put it away if it's done.
 stand to one side of the visual aid and use a pointer.

 arrange the frames in order.
 place the stack in a place that is easy to access definition
 separate the stack so they will not get mixed up.
 place a piece of paper between them to avoid "static cling"

STEP 3: DEFINE THE OBJECTIVE OF THE PRESENTATION
 write the objective of the presentation in a single concise statement.
