    AGE WORLD PROBLEM

    Problem:

    Tom is 5 years older than his sister alex's

    If alex's is 12 years old how old is Tom?

    Solution:

    Tom's age = alex's age +5

    = 12+5

    = 17

    Answer: Tom is 17 years old


    MIXTURE PROBLEM

    Problem: A coffee shop blends two types of coffee

    beans,Cacao beans and Soya beans

    Cacao costs $8 per pound and contains

    90% caffeine.Soya cost $5 per pound

    and contains 20% caffeine. If the shop

    Mixes 3 puonds of cacao with 2 pounds

    of soya, what is:

    SOLUTION

    1. Total Costs

    Cacao (3pounds):3x$8=$24

    Soya (2pounds):2x=$10

    Total cost:$24+$10=$34

    2.percentage Of Caffeine

    Cacao's caffeine: 3pounds x 90%=2.7pounds

    Soya's caffeine: 2pounds x20%=0.4pounds

    Total caffeine 2.7+0.4=3.1 pounds

    Percentage of caffeine: (3.1/5)x100%=62%

    Answer: TOTAL COSTS $34

    Percentage of caffeine: 62%


    DISTANCE RATE AND TIME PROBLEM

    Problem: Ashley drives from City A to City B

    at an average speed of 60 miles per hour.

    On her return trip,she encounters heavy traffic

    and drives at an average speed of 40 miles per

    hour. If the total distance between the cities

    is 240 miles, what is ashley's total travel time?

    SOLUTION

    1. Time from City A to City B

    Distance=240 miles

    Rate = 60 mph

    Time = Distance/Rate= 240/60= 4 hours

    2. Time from City B to City A

    Distance= 240 miles

    Rate= 60 mph

    Time = Distance/Rate=240=hours

    3 total travel time

    Total time= A to B + Time from B to A

    =4 hours+ 6hours

    = 10 hours
