other related activities) per Division Memorandum No. 030, s.

TITLE OF THE DATE/TIME PLACE/VENUE

ACTIVITY

RFS Backyard December 7, 2023/ Sapang Bulac, DRT,

Gardening 4:00 pm – 4:30 pm Bulacan

DETAILS OF THE ACTIVITY

Description of the Activity:

Pursuant to Republic Act No. 10618, An Act Establishing Rural Farm

School (RFS) as Alternative Delivery Mode of Secondary Education, and
Department of Education (DepEd) Order No. 36, s. 2015, titled
Implementing Rules and Regulations of RA 10618. In the RA, rural farm
schools are defined as "a parallel learning system and an alternative
delivery mode of secondary education that provides for facilitative and
experiential learning on the core subjects of the secondary education
curriculum with a focus on Agri-fisheries, designed to address the needs of
children in rural, agricultural, or fishing communities. (Congress of the
Philippines, 2013, p. 2).

The Rural Farm School Program can help change the negative
impressions of farming and agriculture through the concept called,
"Earning while on Training." Implementing this program in the region will
also help train human capital and develop a new breed of farmers that
can contribute to solving food insecurity in the country. Insufficient supply
of food and agricultural commodities is a factor in the increasing market
prices of basic goods, which are experienced today.

The tutor, Ma’am Rochelle M. Castro, visits the backyard garden of the
tutees at home for 1st quarter. The tutor also communicates with the
parents/guardians of the tutees.

Highlights (Insights/Relevant Learnings/Issues and Concerns:

The visitation of the tutor to the backyard garden created by the tutees
started at 4:00 pm and ended at 4:30 pm. Since this project has a
connection with the project of the municipality, specifically the project of
solo parents, they extended their project to Sapang Bulac High School’s
Rural Farm School to integrate their gardening ideas with the tutees
toward productive and enhanced crop production in the future. Their
cooperation with the tutor in assisting the tutees led them to better crop
production planning.

Recommendations/Ways Forward:

The students of Sapang Bulac High School who volunteered as tutees for
this program are parts of the crucial factors in making this program
possible. It is important that this program not only tills the soil but also the
heart of the tutees in appreciating agriculture, especially crop production.
Backyard gardening is a promising project that will surely help the tutees
and the school in learning and reaping everything they sow.
This program should be continuously supported to see the result in the
future. The assistance of the 4Ps members and solo parents of the
municipality is a great help in continuing this backyard gardening.
