    Introduction:

    sharom: The Maybelline story is an inspiring tale that reminds us that beauty can be
    accessible to all.

    Amira: Its origins lie in the audacity of a young girl who sought to enhance her natural
    beauty, and the ingenuity of her brother who turned that quest into a makeup empire.

    Sharom: It all started with a daring young woman who wanted to glamorously
    highlight her eyes. In 1915, Mabel Williams combined charcoal powder with petroleum
    jelly and used it to amplify her eyelashes and eyebrows. Her brother, a pharmacist,
    saw the potential of this mixture and developed an eyelash beautifier called Lash-
    Brow-Ine. This would be Maybelline's first product, a name that merges Mabel's name
    with the word vaseline (“vaselline” in English), and was initially marketed by mail
    order.

    Sharom: The original mascara formula was prepared at home by mixing charcoal
    powder with petroleum jelly to a thick paste. It was applied with a small brush and
    allowed to dry. The result was a mascara that lengthened and darkened the lashes,
    giving Mabel a more intense and attractive look.

    Amira: In the 1920s, Maybelline began marketing in variety stores, proving its
    popularity and its ability to reach a wider audience. By 1940, Maybelline New York had
    already earned its place as one of America's leading mass market makeup brands.
    The initial success of the “Maybelline Cake Mascara” fueled Maybelline's expansion,
    which led to the creation of a wide range of makeup products, from foundations and
    lipsticks to eye shadows and nail polishes.
