ABSTRACT : Quantum Dots or QDs are n anometer scale semiconductor cry stallites th at due to their size-dependent fluorescence ch aracteristics phy sical, chemical and electron ic properties, h ave exception ally

h igh potential in for biomedical uses. Such attributes of QDs qualify them for application s in biomaging, biosen sing, and drug delivery. Th is rev iew specially summarises the current progress of quantum dots in
biomedical application and it involves application s like the imaging fluorescence, drug delivery sy stem and molecular diagnosis. Th is paper also h igh lights sy nthesis approaches of QDs, surface function alization , and
versatility of QDs in assorted imaging application s like; fluorescence microscopy, in -v ivo imaging, and quantum dot biosen sors.
Moreover, the rev iew prov ides in formation on the practical difficulty in the clin ical application of quantum dots, including the issues of toxicity, biocompatibility, and the existing rules for obtain ing the approv al of

these n anoparticles for clin ical use. Measures th at can be taken to address these effects such as coming up w ith a suitable bio compatible coatings and amelioration of sy nthesis methods for the chemical are
discussed. In addition , the paper discusses new developments reported in the field of quantum dot including multifunction al QDs for theranostic uses as w ell as the n anocon jugation of quantum dots w ith other
n anomaterials to improve therapeutic outcomes.
Last but not least, the rev iew describes possible further application s of quantum dots in the field of medicine, and more specifically of Person alized Medicine, w here quantum dots can be used for live mon itoring of
diseases, as w ell as for optimization of the treatment process. Therefore, th is rev iew comprehen sively summarises existing literature on quantum dot research in biomedical application s w ith an intent of adding to the
development process th at w ould elimin ate ch allenges h indering the application of QDs in clin ical practice.

Quantum dots (QDs) h ave a un ique core-shell structure, ty pically con sisting of a semiconductor core surrounded by a w ider bandgap QD CORE
Introduction:
shell. The core is usually made of materials like cadmium selen ide (CdSe), w h ile the shell is often zinc sulfide (Zn S). QDs can be spherical,

rod-sh aped, or tetrapod-sh aped, w ith sizes ranging from 2-10 n anometers. Their dimen sion s determine their optical properties, w ith
smaller QDs emitting blue light and larger ones emitting red light. The surface of QDs can be modified w ith ligands, poly mers, or targeting
moieties to en h ance biocompatibility and specificity. Th is tailored structure en ables QDs' remark able properties, mak ing them suitable for

METHODOLOGHY :
DIGRAMATIC REPRESENTATION OF QUANTU M DOTS
Functionalization of QD surfaces w ith diverse molecules.
CHALLENGES:

The surface can be decorated w ith a w ide range of molecules, such as hy drophilic,
hy drophobic, and amphiphilic molecules (ty pical coating molecules are display ed), w hich can
then be further connected to drugs, proteins, antibodies, and other compounds
