LEARNING PLAN IN PRACTICAL RESEARCH 2

Subject/Level: Practical Research 2 Quarter: 1st Quarter Week: 4

Unit: 1 Date: September 15, 2024

Transfer Goal/s: At the end of the class, the students will acquire the ability to utilize
research design to enhance critical thinking and problem-solving skills. This expertise
will enable them to innovate and tackle contemporary challenges, fostering a culture of
research within a supportive environment. Through this process, they will contribute to
transformative change, guided by principles of integrity and service aligned with higher
values.

Essential Understanding: Research design enhances the ability to apply appropriate

research methods and formulate clear research questions, enabling learners to
construct ethical proposals and interpret findings, ultimately fostering a society informed
by critical thinking and free from biases and misinformation

Essential Question:
1. In what ways will students be able to apply research design principles to critically
analyze and address real-world and societal issues?

I. Preliminaries
Energizer – Say the color not the word (YouTube)
Review – Review of Related Literature and Studies
Focus – The Research Design

Unlocking of Difficulties

 Research design is a comprehensive plan for collecting, analyzing, and

interpreting data.
 Serves as a blueprint for addressing specific research questions or hypotheses.
 Ensures the study is systematic, coherent, and ethically sound.
 Enhances the reliability and validity of findings.
 Contributes to the overall effectiveness of the research process.
Creswell, J. W. (2014).

 Quantitative
research collects numerical data and analyzes it using statistical
methods. The aim is to produce objective, empirical data that can be measured
and expressed numerically. Quantitative research is often used to test
hypotheses, identify patterns, and make predictions. McLeod.S PhD (2023)

Kinds of Quantitative Research Design

1. Experimental Design
2. Quasi Experimental Design
3. Descriptive Research Design
4. Correlational Research Design
5. Ex post Facto Design

Scrambled Words:
1.desgni - design
2.crseahe - research
3.aelrcoicrtoln - correlational
4.rpoeimxenteal - experimental
5.plsoieercuxrmetanqa - quasi-experimental
6.otsxep Focta - ex post facto
7.eidcvrsoitpe – descriptive

Motivation
Video analysis
Students watch a minute and 51 second video about Motivational short video - How to
succeed.
Then, they will be asked questions about the video, Motivational short video - How to
succeed – cartoon (YouTube, n.d.).
APK
1. Ask questions about the video.
2. How can you relate the video to your research in order to make your
research successful?
3.What realizations did you get in the video?

II. Lesson Development

A. Presentation of Concepts

Students will choose appropriate quantitative research design.

Students will appreciate the importance of selecting an appropriate research design

by actively participating in discussions involved in research.

Students will accurately create a visual representation (flowchart or diagram) of the

steps involved in selecting a suitable research design for a specific research
question

Activity #1: Two-Minute Presentations. Each group chooses a research design

element and prepares a two-minute presentation explaining it, including why it’s
important. They present to the class in a quick round.

Activity #2: Simple Venn Diagram Groups draw a Venn diagram comparing two
research design elements. They discuss similarities and differences, then present their
diagrams to the class.

Activity #3: Research Design Debate Divide the class into two groups, assigning each
a different research design (e.g., qualitative vs. quantitative). The 2 groups prepares
arguments supporting their design for a specific research question, then presents their
arguments in a structured debate format, followed by rebuttals. Conclude with a class
discussion reflecting on the strengths and weaknesses of each design

B. Broadening of Concept (Meaning)

Why is it crucial to understand research design in addressing real-world
issues?
How does collaboration enhance the development and quality of research
proposals?

C. Integration (Meaning/Transfer)
a. Ignacian / Related Values - Honesty
As a student. How do you practice honesty when faced challenges in
your research work?

b. Social orientation - Community Engagement and Social Justice

How can research design help us identify and address social justice
issues in our community?

c. Lesson Across Discipline - Mathematics

What should we do when we encounter problems in math?

d. Faith/ Biblical Reflection - Colossians 3:23-24

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord,
not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an
inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are
serving.”
III. Purposive Assignment

Research Design Instruction: You will be given a list of research titles,

each presenting a unique question or problem. Your task is to identify the
most appropriate research design for each title. Consider factors such as
whether the study requires qualitative or quantitative methods, and think
about how data will be collected and analyzed. Explain your reasoning for
each choice, highlighting why the selected design is the best fit. This
activity will help you understand how different designs shape the research
process.

2. Examining the Effectiveness of Online Learning During the Pandemic

3. Consumer Preferences for Eco-Friendly Products

4. The Relationship Between Sleep Quality and Academic Performance in

High School Students

5. Exploring the Influence of Parental Involvement on Student Success in

Remote Learning
IV. Summary / Action (Transfer)
What is Research Design?
What is are the types of Research Design?

V. Evaluation / Assessment (Transfer)

Instructions : Answer each question to the best of your ability. For multiple-choice
questions, circle the correct answer. For short answer questions, provide complete
sentences.

1. Multiple Choice: What is the primary purpose of research design?

a) To collect data
b) To outline how to answer a research question
c) To write a research paper
d) To present findings

2. Multiple Choice: Which of the following is NOT a common type of research design?
a) Experimental
b) Observational
c) Expository
d) Descriptive

3. Short Answer: Define independent and dependent variables, and provide an example
of each in a hypothetical study.

Independent Variable: The factor that is manipulated or changed in an experiment (e.g.,

hours of study).
Dependent Variable: The factor that is measured or observed (e.g., test scores)

4. Which type of research design is best for establishing cause-and-effect relationships?

a) Correlational
b) Experimental
c) Descriptive
d) Case study

5.How does qualitative research differ from quantitative research in terms of data
analysis?

Qualitative research analyzes non-numerical data (e.g., text, interviews) to identify

themes and patterns, while quantitative research uses statistical methods to analyze
numerical data and test hypotheses.
