Part I – Identifying the Problem

1.) Go out, look around you, and identify a problem that you can spot. Explain the
context as well.
Eating unhealthily is an all-too-common occurrence in our modern society. We
can see long queues in fast-food restaurants and social media trends on eating
savory but unhealthy processed or instant foods. In every 100 people that we see, at
least 20 of them are snacking on unhealthy foods. Not only does this bring adverse
effects to the growth of children, but also affects the overall health and nutrition of
adults negatively. Our fast-paced world made people lessen their time to even think
about preparing healthy food for themselves.

Problem Identified – People eat unhealthy instant snacks and are too busy to
prepare healthier foods.

2.) What opportunity can you perceive from the above problem?
If people were to have instant BUT healthy options, children and adults will have
better health conditions and well-being.

3.) Who is the customer?

All individuals.

4.) What according to the customer are the main problems?

According to children, they usually eat junk foods because they are delectable.
To adults, they eat instant noodles and other easy-to-prepare snacks because they
usually work overtime and have less time to think about choosing a healthier option.
To many other individuals, they cannot afford the luxury of having a healthy diet.

5.) What is the job to be done?

Children love junk foods because they are delectable. For adults, they have no
time to prepare healthy foods. For others, they choose the cheaper but less healthy
option. Considering the cases mentioned, they should be given a healthy BUT
immediate, affordable, yet flavorsome option. With this, they would no longer have to
worry about time, money, and taste of what they eat.

6.) What job is currently getting done?

There are other healthy options available on the market but are too expensive for
some people. Some of these products also do not give the same flavor of what
children love find appealing about junk foods.

7.) How is the customer getting the job done OR how is the customer addressing this
problem today?
Many people do not choose the healthy option because they are expensive and
instead, choose the cheaper and unhealthy snacks. Children eat junk food because
they are more delicious than healthier foods. Other people, especially adults, do not
have time to eat nutritiously and just choose the instant and unhealthy options.

8.) Estimate the market size. Your assumption will do.

According to nutrition authorities, there are more or less than 40% of Filipinos eat
unhealthily. Therefore, by solving the problem identified, we can bring better health
and nutrition to Filipinos by 40%.

9.) Does this seem to be a problem worth solving? Explain.

Yes, if people were to eat more healthily and become aware of the good effects
of eating so, then more people will also choose the healthy option and take better
care of themselves. This will also lead to a more productive country that promotes
health and well-being of its citizens and future generations.

Part II – Opportunity Recognition

1.) Where did you observe the customers?
They are observed everywhere – streets, malls, houses, neighborhoods, parks,
schools, offices, etc.

2.) Were the customers in the setting where they usually face this problem when you
observe them?
Yes, many people happily eat their unhealthy snacks and would complain later
how their stomachs would hurt. Some adults even complain about the medicine they
need to take yet they still choose eating instant food because of their easiness to
prepare.

3.) Did you talk to the customers?

Yes, we spoke directly with customers to obtain first-hand information about their
perspectives on both healthy and unhealthy snacks and the problems they face
regarding these. This is so that we can devise solutions to resolve what their
problems may be.

4.) What did you observe?

We have observed that many people eat unhealthily because its delicious,
cheap, and easy to prepare. Some have also mentioned that they think of wanting to
grow a vegetable or other plants but are afraid they might not be able to take good
care of it.

5.) Is there any other job that the customer would want to get done?
Besides having a delicious, cheap, and immediate healthier option, people would
like to have an option to grow their own vegetables that they can use for later.

6.) Is there any other job that your product can do for the customer?
Not only will our product increase the awareness on health and choosing
nutritious snacks, but this can also help encourage people to take care of our
environment by having them take care of plant life in their own homes.

7.) Do you think you can solve any of the customers’ problems?
Yes, we strongly believe that our cheap, delicious, and readily available nutritious
product will help people be aware of their own health for a more productive
community with healthy citizens that will also contribute to the environment.

Part I – Identifying the Problem

1.) Go out, look around you, and identify a problem that you can spot. Explain the
context as well.
The prevalence of sleep deprivation due to academic, professional, and social
demands have been increasing at a rapid rate. Sleep deprivation has serious health
implications, including weakened immune systems, increased risk of chronic
diseases, and mental health problems. At school, we see students who lack of sleep
and doze off in classes and at the workplace, employees either doze off or develop a
short temper.

Problem Identified – An increasing amount of people have not been able to sleep the
amount that they should for their body to function effectively.

2.) What opportunity can you perceive from the above problem?
If people can sleep better, then the productivity of the community will increase.

3.) Who is the customer?

People who are having trouble sleeping.

4.) What according to the customer are the main problems?

Students and adults find it difficult to sleep because of their lack of time. But when
they do have the time to do so, they cannot sleep since they have been online for
many hours and their brains are used to staying awake all the time.

5.) What is the job to be done?

Many individuals cannot sleep normally. Therefore, they need products that will help
them sleep better for them to feel more refreshed and energized.

6.) What job is currently getting done?

There are available sleeping pills which can be bought in drugstores, but some
individuals do not prefer to use them. There are also sounds available for sleep on
Social Media apps but using them also means using their phone’s batteries.
7.) How is the customer getting the job done OR how is the customer addressing this
problem today?
Some people opt to use sleeping pills even though they are a bit aware of the
adverse effects these bring to their health. Others simply doze off whenever they can
to at least make up for the times that they cannot sleep.

8.) Estimate the market size. Your assumption will do.

According to statistics, Filipinos have one of the highest rates of sleep deprivation in
Asia. There are at least 45% of them who do not get enough sleep. By solving the
problem identified, we can decrease the number of Filipinos who are sleep deprived.

9.) Does this seem to be a problem worth solving? Explain.

Yes, if there we can lessen the number of people having sleep deprivation, our
communities will be more productive.

Part II – Opportunity Recognition

1.) Where did you observe the customers?
We have observed most of them at school and others at workplaces where they are
often seen dozing off during classes and work hours.

2.) Were the customers in the setting where they usually face this problem when you
observe them?
Yes. Many of them are students who fall asleep during classes. There are also
adults who are seen feeling sleepy during work hours or easily lose temper.

3.) Did you talk to the customers?

Yes, we spoke directly with customers to gain first-hand information about the
problems they face regarding sleep.

4.) What did you observe?

We have observed that people have some time to sleep, and they do so when they
can. But at night, they have a hard time sleeping because of their short naps during
the day.

5.) Is there any other job that the customer would want to get done?
Since the customers cannot sleep at night, they would want to at least listen to
sounds that would help them sleep (e.g. rain sounds, relaxing instrumental music,
etc.) without having to use their phones.

6.) Is there any other job that your product can do for the customer?
According to international surveys, people who look at slow-moving things help them
destress and eventually make them sleepy.

7.) Do you think you can solve any of the customers’ problems?
Yes, we believe that our lava lamp with sounds will help people relax, destress, and
help them sleep better. If more people can sleep soundly, this can increase the
overall productivity of communities.
