Coping Mechanism - SOP 2

We can all agree that teachers is a demanding and challenging profession such as, classroom
management, lesson planning, and etc.. so the themes want to identify the coping mechanism
teachers do when they encounter challenges when handling students with ASD

Now for Theme 1: Taking breaks to cope


Our respondent Teachers tend to take breaks to cope especially when they encounter a student
who is undergoing a series of tantrums. Thus, they do let the student be in order for them to
collect their thoughts and act rationally to provide the necessary interventions on the behavior
of the student.

In addition, the use of online resources, our respondents tend to use different learning
strategies designed to address the learner's particular concerns. Such as youtube, google, and
other online platforms to maximize students achievement and minimize disruptions.
According to Nelson 2020, Special education teachers use online resources such as youtube,
google, and other online platforms to gain ideas or provide appropriate accommodations to aid
the students' development.

Furthermore, support can be given in different ways, depending on the students needs. Our
respondents expressed the need of the students parents support in order to maximize the
development of the students. Through the creation of IEP or Individualized Educational
Program, this program was created to give opportunities for teachers, school personnel and
parents to work together to improve both the students academic and behavior.

According to Hodges Et.Al. 2020 teacher and the school administration carefully create the
Individualized Education Program (IEP) for each student in preparation to address their diverse
needs. In addition to the emotional support that can emerge from a relationship with an
understanding colleague, the sharing of vital teaching tips and behavioral management advice
from an experienced educator. This method significantly aids the teachers by making them feel
that they are not alone in the process and assures the guardians of the students that the school
is ready to take in their child as a student.

Managing classrooms is difficult, but being a special class educator demands a higher
commitment from the teacher. Our respondents establish a framework of a positive
environment to reduce negative behavior.

According to Gulliford & Miller, 2023, To minimize disruptions and maximize student
achievement, teachers need effective behavioral support strategies that are tailored to meet the
individual needs and profiles of each students.

Our respondents also expressed the importance of parent and guardian involvement in the
special education decision-making process. The most important thing parents of disabled
children can do is participate actively as members of the Individual Education Program (IEP)
team that decides a student's future route.
