Question 2 (8 marks)
Parents are designing a rectangular rabbit hutch for their daughter’s rabbit. They initially have 12 m of
wood to make the edges of the frame, the sides of which they will then cover with chicken wire. The base
dimensions are (𝑥 + 10) 𝑐𝑚 and (𝑥 + 80) 𝑐𝑚. The volume of their hutch, in 𝑐𝑚3 , is given by

𝑉(𝑥) = 𝑥 3 + 60𝑥 2 − 1900𝑥 − 24 000.

(d) If the parents settle on dimensions that use an 𝑥 value of 90 cm, how many extra metres of wood
will they need to construct the hutch?
