Prerequisites
Download the last LEAFOS software from the NComputing website.

Use a 3rd party tool (e.g., Rufus) to flash the LEAFOS software to create a bootable USB stick.

Note: LEAFOS can also be flashed to the hard disk of your PC or laptop. This approach wipes out
any previously installed OS.

Booting to the LEAFOS USB Stick

Power off your PC or laptop.

Plug in the USB stick that has the LEAFOS software.

Power on your PC or laptop.

If LEAFOS software is booted then proceed to the

NComputing Global, Inc. LEAFOS Getting Started Guide Page: 2

Connecting to Wi-Fi section.

If the current OS on your PC or laptop is loaded then you will need to configure your computer
so that it boots to the LEAFOS USB Stick.

You can quickly change the boot sequence of your computer. Alternatively, you can access the
BIOS of your computer to permanently change the boot sequence.

Please review LEAFOS Live Boot Quick Start Guide starting on page 3, section LEAFOS LIVE BOOT
FROM USB FLASH DRIVE for more details.

Note: The LEAFOS image is provided in a compressed format. The first time boot sequence
includes a process that decompresses the image. The only occurs during the first time boot.
Depending on your PC or laptop it may take up to 2 minutes to complete the decompression
step. During this time you will see a blank screen. Please wait until the decompression has
completed.

Note: If there is no USB stick in your USB port then your PC or laptop will boot to the hard drive
for normal operation.

Connecting to Wi-Fi
You can skip this step if your PC or laptop is connected to the network using an ethernet cable.

To enable WiFi connectivity hover over the WiFi icon found at the top of the LEAFOS UI then click
Configure…

This displays the WiFi connection UI as shown above.

Select the appropriate connection options and click the APPLY button.

If you clicked on WiFi then select your WiFi SSID name from the Network Name dropdown then click Edit
WiFi to enter connection credentials.

Activating LEAFOS Software
To unlock the full functionality of LEAFOS you must activate the software with a License Key provided by
NComputing.

When LEAFOS boots it detects if it has already been activated. If it has not been activated you will see
the following UI prompt:

Enter the License Key provided to you by NComputing and click the Activate button.

Note: You must activate LEAFOS to connect to Microsoft AVD, Cloud PC and RDS. Activation also unlocks
access to locally installed applications such as the Chromium browser, Teams and Zoom.

You are now ready to use the full functionality of LEAFOS.

See below for optional setup and configuration topics.

Optional Setup and Configuration Topics
Accessing LEAFOS Settings UI
The LEAFOS Settings UI allows you to configure your installation. The admin can either configure LEAFOS
device setting locally or remotely via PMC Endpoint Manager.

Most of the topics described below require the Settings UI.

You can open the Settings UI at any time by clicking on the gear icon in the top right of the LEAFOS UI:

The gear icon opens the Settings UI preset to the General tab as shown above.

Note: The SUBNET TAG shown in the above screenshot can be very useful for automatically assigning
devices to PMC groups. Please reference How to use ‘Subnet Tags’ to assign devices to groups in PMC for
more details.

The General tab includes this option:

Click the “Password protection of device settings” checkbox and enter the desired password.

You can select 1 or more of the sections as shown.

After clicking the APPLY button then access to the checked sections will require the password that you
defined.
