SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 12

Date: October 1-2, 2024

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students shall be able to:
a. distinguish rational functions, rational equations and rational
inequalities

II. Subject Matter

Learning Competency: M11GM-Ib-2: Distinguish rational functions,
rational equation, and rational inequality.
Topic: Rational Functions, Equations and Inequalities
Materials: Laptop, Visual Graphics, and Chalk
Reference: https://www.deped.gov.ph. K to 12 Senior High School Academic
Track Subject – General Mathematics
Value (s): Cooperation and Individualized Learning

III. Procedure
A. Preparatory Activities
1. Classroom Routine
 Prayer
 Greetings
 Attendance
 Class Rules

B. Development Activities
Review of Rational Expressions:

Rational expression is an expression that can be written as a ratio of two

polynomials.
A rational expression can be described as a function where either the
numerator, denominator, or both have a variable on it.

Examples of algebraic expressions and have the class identify if they are
rational or not.
2
x +3 x +2 Rational expression because it is a ratio of two
x+4 polynomials
1 Rational expression because the numerator 1 is a
3x
2 polynomial (of degree 0).
2
x + 4 x−3 Rational expression which is also a polynomial.
2
√ x +1 Not a rational expression since the numerator is not a
x 3−1 polynomial.
1 The expression is equal to
x +2 1
so it is a rational expression.
x−2 ( x +2)(x−1)

C. Lesson Proper
1. Activity: Let’s get Mathivated!

Direction: Consider the following algebraic expressions, determine

whether they are rational or not and state the reason.
2

2.
√ x−4
- Not rational expression
2 x−1

3. - Rational expression
x−5
4. x+3 - Rational expression

2. Analysis.
The teacher will ask the following questions:
o What did you observe in the activity?
o Did you having a hard time to understand the situations?
o Why is cooperation is being important in group activity?

3. Abstraction
The teacher will discuss the following concepts.

Use the table below to show how to distinguish among rational

equations, rational inequalities and rational functions

Generalization
The teacher will ask the following questions:

o What is polynomial?
o What is the difference between rational equation and rational
expressions?

IV. Evaluation
The teacher will give an assessment to the students to assess their learnings.

Direction: Determine whether the given is a rational function, a rational

equation, a rational inequality, or none of these.
