Dear Maxwell,
I am happy to receive your letter. You have wanted to know about our country. I
am now writing about it to you. Bangladesh is a small country in South Asia. It
is surrounded by India to the West, North-West and East, by Myanmer to the
South-East and Bay of Bengal to the South. It became indeperident in 1971. Its
capital is Dhaka. Our major language is Bangla. The chief religion of the people
is Islam and the Muslims constitute 85% of the population. Hindus are the largest
minority group. There are other religions too. All are living peacefully here. The
total population is about 160 million which is very high comparing to its area.
Bangladesh is a country of scenic beauty. Hundreds of rivers criss-cross the
country. The important tourist spots are the Sundarbans. Cox's Bazar sea beach
and the tea gardens of Sylhet.
No more today. More when we meet together.
Yours ever,
Shanta

My dear Niloy,
It would have been a great pleasure if you had joined, my birthday ceremony. I
know you could not attend due to your illness but you have sent me a nice present.
My heartiest thanks for the complete works of Rabindranath Tagore that you sent
me on the occasion. Tagore is one of my most favourite authors. He was a
versatile genius. He excelled equally in poems, novels, short stories, dramas and
other
forms of writing. They all attract me much. I have had a lot of presents on the
day. But yours one is the best of all.
I am well. Hoping you to be hale and hearty.
Lovingly yours,
Sakiya

My dear Sumaya.
I am very happy to receive your letter of the 15th instant. Yougave a graphic
description of the annual prize-givingceremony of your school. It was really a
nice programme. Now I am writing about the prize-giving ceremony of ourschool
which was held yesterday in the school compound. Wedecorated the school
building very tastefully. The functionbegan just at 10 am with recitation from the
Holy Quran. TheT.N.O was in the chair. The Headmaster read out his report. Then
the main ceremony began. The Headmaster called eachrecipient by name and the
president gave away the prizes andshook him by the hands. I got two prizes. When
the formal meeting came to an end, we staged a short drama to entertain the guests
which was highly appreciated by the audience. This being over, the Headmaster
thanked the president for the trouble he took in coming to the function. A
concluding song suited to the occasion was sung by a student of class 10.
I am very fine. Convey my good wishes to your parents.
Yours ever,
Mahiya
