A handicraft is any of a vast array of different sorts of work in which useful and beautiful

things are totally manufactured by hand or by using only related, simple, non-automated tools
like hooks, carving implements, and scissors. This kind of work is occasionally more specifically
referred to as handmade or artisanal.

Research also has shown that crafting may boost mood and self-confidence, it
also increases cognitive flexibility, enhances gross and fine motor skills, helps people learn new
skills, and slows cognitive decline.

In the andragogy theory of Knowles represents an effort to create a theory expressly for
adult education. Knowles emphasizes that adults are independent and demand decision-making
responsibility. According to andragogy, adult education should concentrate more on the process
than the information being taught. The most effective techniques include case studies, role-
playing, simulations, and self-evaluation. Instead of lecturing or assigning grades, instructors
take on the role of resource or facilitator. In accordance with this, we developed Bloom's
Taxonomy and Malcolm Knowles' theory of the four andragogy for our training program.

In 1984, Knowles suggested 4 principles that are applied to adult learning:

 Adults need to be involved in the planning and evaluation of their instruction.

 Experience (including mistakes) provides the basis for the learning activities.
 Adults are most interested in learning subjects that have immediate relevance and impact to
their job or personal life.
 Adult learning is problem-centered rather than content-oriented. (Kearsley, 2010)

In order for our training program to be successful we will apply these 4 principles that
Malcolm Knowles suggested:

1. Making our participants have their own decisions on what handicrafts they will create
through the materials available. Therefore, they will have the freedom to express their thoughts
and ideas as well as develop their creativity in crafts making.
2. Provide experience to the participants by giving them the opportunity to make their
own handicrafts after the discussion in every session. This will make the participants learn on
their own with the guidance of the lecturer.
3. Since this training program is designed to also help the participants create something
from scratch to something profitable, it can help have an impact on them by having another
source of income that can help them in their daily lives. Also, by acquiring skills that they can use
in the future such as learning skills; creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and
communication. They will also build hard skills like carving, designing, sketching, etc.
4. Adult learning is problem-centered rather than content-oriented. The training
program will let the participants explore things on their own based on the discussion performed
and let them think of the scenarios where they can apply the lesson. This will make not make
them focus only on the discussion but rather they can think outside the box on how they can
improve or utilize their crafts and create unique products.

The next system is Bloom's Taxonomy, which was created to give teachers a shared
language to discuss and exchange learning and evaluation approaches. The taxonomy can be
used to determine specific learning outcomes, although it is most frequently employed to
evaluate learning on various cognitive levels. The purpose of employing Bloom's taxonomy in
teaching is to help students develop higher-order thinking capabilities by strengthening their
lower-level cognitive abilities.

This structure helped us carry out the goals of our training program in an efficient
manner. We designed a session using Bloom's taxonomy and the knowledge dimension
that would help students develop these skills up until the metacognitive and creative
higher-order thinking skills. Applying these theories effectively we can say that our
training program is successful and it can be enhanced in the long run.

First, to achieve the first and second levels which are the remember and
understand, we implement a 30 mins discussion of the lesson where the participants will
have knowledge background about the topic that will help them acquire the highest level.
Next, for the applying and analyzing we will let the participants think of a draft design of
a crafts in order for them to apply their knowledge after the discussion. This also make
them experiment and illustrate ideas for their works before they proceed to the next level
which are evaluating and create. After they draft their ideas, it’s time for them to evaluate
their concepts with the help of the instructor in the training program, this will let them
measure their work by giving critiques and accepting comments from others through
collaborations. After that, they can now acquire the highest level of Bloom’s taxonomy
which is to create by making or generating crafts based on the materials given.
