Practical examples:
Connecting a mobile phone to another
device such as a laptop or a car’s
infotainment system through blue-tooth.
Connecting a laptop or a smart-phone to a
short ranged WiFi.
Connecting a PC to a printer through blue-
tooth.
LAN:
It stands for Local Area Network.
It covers a small area as compared to MAN
and WAN, for example a house, building or
an institute.
It’s range varies from 1km to 10kms. It can
transfer data . When a WAN works at a
speed of 1 mbp/s, LAN can transmit data at
a speed of 1 to 10 mbp/s
LAN helps devices such as computers,
printers to connect with each other within
a local area to share data, information or
internet.
This type of network usually uses ethernet
cables in case of wired connection.
A router or a switch are used to manage
connections.
Typical speed is 10,000 to 40,000 mb/s
Practical examples:
A company's internal network in which
computers, servers, and printers are
connected within the office’s building.
A university or college’s website that can
only be accessed within the university and
only with the university’s WiFi.
MAN:
It stands for Metropolitan Area Network.
WAN:
It stands for wide area network.
Practical Example:
A multinational company’s network that
connects offices in different countries or the
infrastructure that supports the internet.
