"Peace is not merely the absence of conflict, but the presence of justice." This quote
highlights the importance of justice in achieving true peace. Peace is not simply a state of
tranquility without conflict but of fairness and equality, where all humans are respected. Without
justice, there can be no lasting peace, as conflict will eventually arise when inequality prevails.
A famous historical example of injustice was the segregation of Black Americans in the U.S.
via Jim Crow laws. These laws enforced Afro-Americans to use specific schools, houses, and
medical services, among other institutions and facilities.
Islamophobia is another instance of injustice. Since 9/11, Western nations have accused
Muslims of terrorism, extremism and violence; they face hatred and discrimination.
The pursuit of justice is therefore, essential for achieving peace. That means addressing the
root causes of conflict, such as poverty, discrimination, and oppression. It also means holding
those who commit violence accountable for their actions. The path to peace is long and bumpy,
but it is a journey that we must endure to create a more just and peaceful world.
