Critical Thinking Exercise

1. Examine the different training techniques. Which among them cannot be used by Philippine-based
companies?

There are tons of different ways to train employees. We've got things like e-learning, which is online
courses, and on-the-job training, where you learn by doing. There's also instructor-led training, which is
like a classroom setting, and role-playing, where you practice handling different situations. Then there's
coaching, where you get one-on-one guidance, and simulation training, which uses realistic simulations.
We also have collaborative training, where employees learn from each other, and video training, which
uses videos to teach. And let's not forget case studies, where you analyze real-world situations, and
blended learning, which combines different methods. But for Philippine-based companies, some methods
might be a bit difficult. For example, high-fidelity simulation training, which uses super realistic
equipment, could be too expensive for many companies. And virtual reality training, while super cool,
needs a lot of tech investment, which might not be feasible for everyone. Also, sending employees abroad
for training can be really costly, especially for smaller companies. So, while there are a lot of great
training techniques, Philippine-based companies need to choose ones that fit their budget and resources.

2. Imagine that a class is a small organization. Do a training needs assessment by surveying each
student’s strengths and weaknesses? After identifying the needs, analyze and prepare a short training
program based on the identified needs (follow the training process).

So let's imagine our class is like a small company. To figure out what training we need, we should ask
everyone about their strengths and weaknesses. For example, maybe some people are great at writing
but struggle with public speaking, while others are amazing at teamwork but need help with time
management. Once we know everyone's strengths and weaknesses, we can see where the gaps are.
Let's say we find that a lot of people need help with communication skills, like giving presentations or
writing reports. We also notice that some people struggle with working together as a team. So, we could
design a short training program focused on communication and teamwork. We could start with a session
on public speaking, where everyone gets to practice giving a short presentation. Then, we could have a
workshop on writing effective reports. For teamwork, we could do some fun activities that encourage
collaboration and problem-solving. Finally, we could have a session where everyone gets feedback on
their skills and areas for improvement. This way, we can help everyone in the class develop their skills
and become even better at working together. It's like a mini-company training program right in our
classroom.

3. Visit the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) Web site (http://www.astd.org). What
training topics are being discussed? Is there a need for a professional society?

-I checked out the ASTD website, and it's full of information about training and development. They talk
about all sorts of things, like how to use virtual reality for training, how to onboard new employees
effectively, and how to make sure training is inclusive and fair for everyone. They also have a lot of
resources on leadership development and how to use technology to improve training. I think it's really
important to have a professional society like ASTD. It's like a community for people who work in training
and development, and they can share ideas, learn from each other, and stay up-to-date on the latest
trends. It's also a great way to get certified and show that you're a professional in the field. So, yeah, I
think professional societies are definitely needed.
