Plan of Investigation

My group decided to focus on the topic “Psychosis” however I was interested in researching
“The Causes of Psychosis”. I got interested in researching psychosis because a lot of my
peers has been suffering from it, so I hope to understand it better. During my research I
expect to enhance my skimming, critical thinking, and comprehension skills. All my data
would be collected from the internet using a Poem, an article, and a YouTube video.
Finally, the information gained from my research will go along with my co-operation,
interpersonal, and writing skills to formulate my reflective entries and other parts of the SBA.

Reflective Entry #1
Artefact #1 is an article titled ‘What is Psychosis’. The author expressed several causes of
psychosis, including stress, medical problems, and schizophrenia. Articles like these are a
great was to spread awareness, and I am expected to learn a lot from it so I can help my peers.

Artefact #2 is a poem titled ‘Parallel Universes’. The poet expressed how people
experiencing psychosis live in a whole different world as us in their minds and is trying to
show us their universe one day. I believe we as humans should try our best to understand
them and get them help.

Artefact #3 is a YouTube video title ‘What is psychosis and how does it manifest?’. In this
video a psychiatrist explained that substance abuse is a leading factor towards psychosis. I
will utilize what I learned to educate people in my community so that they could put a stop to
substance abuse.

Reflective Entry #3
After undergoing this research, I realized that I knew nothing about psychosis, but with the
help of the artifacts I understood that Psychosis usually happens at an early age and is easy to
cure with the help of therapy and antipsychotics. I’ve seen psychosis happening throughout
my school and it is almost always an effect of marijuana, and I feel that the government needs
to start an initiative that may help these people.
Several problems with group work were affected. One of my group members got into a big
altercation and unfortunately got taken away. I had to step up and take on the work of two
people instead of one. Despite these challenges, I got through with a few new skills. I’ve
learned to be cooperative with my group members, leading to me being an effective group
leader.
The benefits that I got from this S.B.A. include a better understanding of how to help others
and myself get over psychosis. I was able to gain a better understanding of my subtopic, and
the most significant aspect of it all is that I can now share what I’ve learned with family and
friends. I’ve also learned to adapt to certain situations better and thrive.

Written Group Report
Psychosis is a mental health condition where a person loses touch with reality. It often
involves hallucinations and delusions. In recent years, Psychosis has become a major concern
among young people, as rising rates of mental health issues continue to affect this vulnerable
age group. Knowing this, our group became interested in this topic because we wanted to
understand the causes, warning signs, and treatments so we could help people act early,
potentially preventing more severe outcomes. Therefore, members focused on the causes,
signs, and treatments of this issue.
When we met as a group, we decided to gather artifacts containing information about the
topic from various media sources. We then came together to discuss and examine all the
artifacts and chose the most relevant artifacts and made sure they weren’t duplicated. From
our discussion, we chose the following stimuli: an article titled ‘What is Psychosis’ by
Emotions Clinic (2021), an article titled ‘Watching for Signs of Psychosis in Teens’ by Child
Mind Institute (2024), and a video titled ‘Schizophrenia -causes, symptoms, diagnosis,
treatment & pathology’ (2016).
The artifacts that we selected brought light on the severity of psychosis and how it affects
people of different age groups but especially teens. Emotions Clinic (2021) warns that the
lack of sleep may cause stress which contributes significantly to psychosis. However, if
identified early, Child Mind Institute (2024) explains that these early signs of psychosis
include not wanting to see friends, feeling like people want to hurt them, not showering, and
seeing or hearing things that aren’t there. However, the good news is that in the early stages,
psychosis in teens can be treated by making simple changes in their habits. Thus, Elsevier
(2016) recommends the use of antipsychotics along with therapy to boost the effectiveness,
and the healing process.

After exploring the causes, signs, and treatments, we understand that psychosis affects the
younger generation more than the older because of ease of getting stressed, but it is easy to
help them at a young age because we can just change their habits and incorporate effective
coping strategies in schools.
