UNIVERSITY LIBRARY ANNUAL REPORT 2023

The University Library plays a vital role in the academic success of

students and the research productivity of faculty, serving as integral
components of the overall educational environment within universities. It is the
central academic resource that supports the teaching, learning, and research
activities within a university community.

University Library Users Statistics 2023

The library statistics not only showcase the importance of the library
but also underscore the need to continue investing in its growth and
development. The statistics reveal a substantial uptick in the utilization of
library spaces, print collections, e-books, online databases, and other
resources of the library. As we witness a growing demand for our services, it
becomes imperative to adapt and enhance our offerings to meet the evolving
needs of our diverse users.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

● Online Subscriptions

Online subscriptions provide real-time updates and the latest information

in various fields of study. This ensures that our library's collection remains
current and aligned with the rapidly evolving landscape of academic and
research disciplines. Unlike traditional library resources with limited operating
hours, online subscriptions offer 24/7 accessibility. This flexibility
accommodates the diverse schedules of our users, including students, faculty,
and researchers who may require access to resources at any time, at any
location. Below are the list of online subscription of the University Library in
2023:

1. Wiley Online Library

2. Access Engineering
3. American Chemical Society
4. JSTOR
5. Turnitin (Anti-Plagiarism Software)
6. Philippine E-Journal
7. Destiny Library Manager (Library Management System)

• Library Orientation

Over the past year, the University Library has successfully

implemented a dual strategy by conducting both virtual and face-to-face
orientations. This approach addressed the diverse needs of our user base,
ensuring accessibility and inclusivity. The virtual orientations for online
subscriptions, which conducted on October 18-20, 2023, were designed to
reach a broader audience beyond our physical campus. We utilized digital
platforms to guide participants through online catalogs, databases, and
research tools, promoting digital literacy.

Simultaneously, face-to-face orientations continued, offering

personal interactions and hands-on demonstrations. On July 4-5, 2023,
the University Library actively participated during the Academic Fair
wherein it showcased its online resources and print collections such as
Darangen, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and others. During the
event, the library personnel assigned at the CSM library, Ms. Aleah
Marohomsalic and Ms. Josephine B. Samson showcased as well their
talents by performing the intermission number for OVCAA Cluster.

Last August 17, 2023, the University Library conducted another

round of orientations on library services during the CED-IDS General
Orientation. On the following week, the library participated again in the 2-
day Orientation/Convocation on University Student Related Policies
Research Fair which was conducted on August 23-24. It was a series of
orientations for all the freshmen students of the University. Another
orientation was conducted for Engineering students last August 30, 2023
and a series of orientations for the CED students conducted on October 4,
2023 at the CED Learning Commons.

● Awarding of the Top Book Borrowers of the Month

In 2023, the library started to recognize the top book borrowers of the
library by giving certificates and tokens to the students and faculty
members. Recognizing top book borrowers serves as positive
reinforcement for reading habits. It encourages individuals to engage with
the library's collection, explore diverse genres, and develop a love for
reading. This program creates as well awareness about the available
library materials and motivates individuals to become regular patrons.
● Renovation of Libraries

Renovating and beautifying a library can enhance the overall user

experience. The University Library has continued the renovation and
repainting of some college libraries including College of Education
Learning Commons, CASS Library and Main Library.

With the full support of the administration, University Library and the
College of Education have successfully inaugurated the CED Learning
Commons on March 22, 2023. The Learning Commons was further
enhanced and modernized by Webcode Infrastructure and Turnkey
Solutions (WITS) by supplying furniture and fixtures which was completed
on September 23, 2023. The new space

By combining functionality with aesthetic appeal and user-friendly

features, the renovated and enhanced library can become a vibrant and
inviting space that encourages learning, collaboration, and community
engagement.

● Funding Received

The University library collaborated with the Office of Institutional

Planning and Development Services (OIPDS) of the Office of the Vice
Chancellor for Strategic Initiatives (Formerly Office of the Vice Chancellor
for Planning and Development) to request additional funding for the library.
With this, the library is identified as one of the MSU-IIT’s Information
Systems Strategic Plan (ISSP) 2022-2024. The ISSP is an important
requirement for MSU-IIT to secure funding from the Department of Budget
and Management for its ICT-related projects. The proposed requested
budget for the establishment of e-Libraries browsing facilities is
P59,236,000.00.

With the support of the administration, the total approved budget for
the University library for 2023 was P4,508,735 for GAA, Income and
Fiduciary. This budget was utilized for the procurement of books, online
subscriptions, traveling and training expenses, membership to
organization, office supplies, maintenance and other operations of the
library. The library has also requested additional funding amounting to
P2,338,050.00 for the procurement of computer units, CCTVs, and air
conditioners. This funding was approved on August 3, 2023 during the
263rd Finance BOR Meeting BOR Res No. 153, S. 2023. Below is the
breakdown of the budget received by the University Library in 2023.
Fund Source Amount

Fund 01-GAA 508,735.00

Fund 05-Income 200,000.00

Fund 05-Fiduciary 3,800,000.00

Fund 05-Income-BOR 2,338,050.00

TOTAL 6,846,785.00

This budget is essential for the University Library to significantly

improve user experience, accessibility, and the overall efficiency of library
operations.

By investing in updated book collections and equipment, the library can

create a modern, secure, and user-friendly environment that meets the
evolving needs of its patrons and supports its role as a hub for learning and
research.
