B. Developmental Activities
a. Motivation

Maria loves collecting marbles. On

Monday she went to a store and
brought 23 marbles. the next day, on
Tuesday, she bought 14 more marbles.
Now Maria wants to know how many
marbles she has in total. I think she has 30 marbles, teacher
How many marbles does Maria have No, she has 40 marbles, teacher
now?

Those are good guesses! To find out

how many marbles she has now, we
need to add the two amounts. But since
these are two-digit numbers, we need
to learn how to add them correctly.

b. Presentation
When we add two-digit numbers, we
start by adding the digits in the ones
place first, and then we add the digits
in the tens place.

Ones are on the right side, and tens are

on the left side.
In 23 and 14, 2 and 1 are the tens, 3
and 4 are the ones.

7, teacher

Add the ones, 3+ 4 is equals to?

Exactly, equals to 7

3, teacher
37, teacher

Yes, teacher
Next add the tens, 2+1 is equals to?
Very good, equals to 3. So 23+14 is
equals to?
Yes excellent, equals to 37
Is that clear class?
Alright, in adding two-digit numbers, we
have to add the ones first then followed
by the tens.
C. Teaching Modeling (I DO)
a) Concrete
Before we will continue, I’ll request
everybody to stand up and let’s have
an energizer entitled “Finger play”
(Play the song)
Did you have fun class?
That’s great, now kindly take your sit
and let’s continue with our discussion.
Let’s have another number. 22 and 16
2,6
1,1

Which of the given numbers are the

ones?
How about the tens?

+ 1,2,3,4,5,6 7 8

8 Teacher

Very good ,2 and 6 are the ones ,1 and

1 are the tens.
Let’s add the ones first ,2+6. I have 2
popsicle sticks in my right hand and 6
in my left hand. How many popsicles
all? Let's count them together.
1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8. How many popsicle
sticks do we have?
8, Very good! 2+6 is 8
1,2,3

3, Teacher

+
Next add the tens, 2+1. I have 2
Popsicle stick in my right hand and 1 in 38, Teacher
my left hand. Count with me 1,2,3.
Now, how may Popsicle do we have? Yes, Teacher
3, Very good! 2+1 is 3.

22+16 is equals to?

b. Picture
I have here 24 balls and another 14
balls.
4 and 4, teacher
2 and 1, teacher

1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8

2 4
+1 4
In number 24 and 14, What are the
ones?
How about the tens?
Very good 4 and 4 are the ones, 2 and 1
are the tens.
Now we are going to add the ones, 4 +
4.
I have 4 balls and another 4 balls if we
add them together, how many balls do I
have? 1,2,3

Count with me 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8. I have 8

balls in total.
2 4 38, teacher
+1 4
Yes, teacher

_________
8
Next, we are going to add the tens, 2 +
1.
I have 2 balls and another 1 ball if we
add them together, how many balls do I
have?
5 and 2, teacher
3 and 1, teacher

Count with me 1,2,3. I have 3 balls in

total

2 4
+1 4 7, teacher
_________
3 8
So 24 balls + 14 balls is equals to? 38
Is that clear?
c. Abstract
4, teacher
Let’s have another number.
(the teacher will write on the board)
+
Yes, teacher

In 35 and 12, what are the ones?

What about the tens?

+
Excellent, 5 and 2 are the ones, 3 and 1

Let’s add the ones, 5 + 2 is equals to?
5+2 is equals to is 7.

Next, we are going to add the tens, 3 +

1is equals to?
3+1 is equals to 4.

Ones, teacher

So, 35+12 is equal to? 47.

Did you understand class?
Alright, so remember when adding two-
digit numbers we must add the ones
first, followed by the tens.
D. Guided Practice (We Do)
(The teacher presents 12 apples and
another 15 apples using power point)

now?
If we are going to add the 2 and 5,
where do you think they belong ones or
tens?
Rochelle?
Very good they belong to ones.
If we add the 2 and 5 what would think 1,2
will be the answer? I have here 2 apples 2, teacher
and another 5 apples if we put them
together. (Rhea paste the number 7)

7
count with me 1,2,3,4,5,6,7
So, 2+5 is equal to?
OK Kaysie go to the board and paste
the number 7
27 Teacher
1 2 Yes, Teacher
+1

count with me 1,2

So, 1+2 is equal to?
OK Rhea go to the board and paste the
number 2

+1
