2. UOMSE
3. NIMOTRO
4. KYEBDORA
5. INRTPER
B. Analysis
QUESTIONS:
1. What is computer?
2. What is the function of the printer?
3. What is the importance of system unit?
C. Abstraction
Introduction:
1. Input unit
2. Central processing unit
3. Output unit
While there are other components as well, these three are primarily
responsible for making a computer function. They must work in complete
synergy because that will ensure smooth overall functioning. Hence, we
can even call them building blocks of a computer system.
Input Unit
These components help users enter data and commands into a computer
system. Data can be in the form of numbers, words, actions, commands,
etc. The main function of input devices is to direct commands and data
into computers. Computers then use their CPU to process this data and
produce output.
For example, a laptop’s keyboard is an input unit that enters numbers and
characters. Similarly, even a mouse can be an input unit for entering
directions and commands. Other examples include barcode readers,
Magnetic Ink Character Readers (MICR), Optical Character Readers
(OCR), etc.
INPUT DEVICES:
1. Keyboard devices
2. Mouse
3. Joystick
4. Light pen
5. Track ball
6. Scanner
7. Digitizer
8. Microphone
9. Magnetic ink card reader (MICR)
10. Optical character reader (OCR)
11. Bar code readers
12. Optical mark reader (OMR)
a) Memory Unit
Once a user enters data using input devices, the computer system stores
this data in its memory unit. This data will now remain here until other
components of CPU process it. The memory unit uses a set of pre-
programmed instructions to further transmit this data to other parts of the
CPU.
c) Control Unit
Output Unit
The third and final component of a computer system is the output unit.
After processing of data, it is converted into a format which humans can
understand. After conversion, the output units display this data to users.
Examples of output devices include monitors, screens, printers and
speakers. Thus, output units basically reproduce the data formatted by the
computer for users’ benefit.
OUTPUT DEVICES:
1. Monitor
a.) Cathode-Ray tube Monitor
b.) Flat-panel display Monitor
2. Printers
3. Speakers
4. Projector
5. Plotter
6. Braille reader
7. Television
8. Video card
9. Global positioning system
10. Headphones
D. Application
Create a group consisting of ten (10) members each, you are given eight
(8) minutes to do the task and two (2) minutes presentation for each
group. First group is assigned for input device, second group is task on
CPU (Central Processing Unit), and the last group will be assigned to
output device. Aside from what has mentioned earlier, think of an office,
business, or organization within Davao City or school premises, which
uses a computer component assigned to you and align its function. Write
your answer on the paper given to you.
Format:
Name of Office/ Name of Component Function
Business/ Organization
IV. Evaluation
Prepare ¼ sheet of paper and answer the following questions by writing the letter
of your answer.
1. Which computer system component is responsible for symbol, number, and letter
manipulation and serves as the central control unit for other computer system
components?
a. CPU
b. Keyboard
c. Hard Disk
d. Memory
2. Niko is working from home as a virtual assistant. The main niche of Niko is
graphics designing, video editing and such. As his leisure time, Niko also had the
time to play online games. Until such time, his computer is not at its best. If you’re
Niko’s friend, what would be your advice where Niko need to enhance the graphics
performance of his computer for work and gaming. Which type of computer
component would Niko need to upgrade or select to achieve this?
a. Hard Drive
b. RAM (Memory)
c. Power Supply Unit (PSU)
d. Printer
3. If you were designing a computer system for a data analysis task where large
datasets need to be processed quickly, which component would play a crucial role
in determining the processing speed?
a. Monitor
b. CPU
c. Mouse
d. Speakers
4. In today’s generation, people are striving for freedom and independence. One step
to start is to find a place where you are comfortable and at peace working. So,
you're setting up a home office with limited space. Which of the following devices is
both an input and output device, making it an ideal choice to save space and
reduce clutter?
a. Scanner
b. External Hard Drive
c. Printer
d. Speaker System
5. Pristine started her self-made portrait studio. Since she’s only starting her
business, she is struggling to achieve a high quality of edited pictures for her
clients. As she continually learning every day, someone give an advice to her that
she must build a computer for a graphic design studio that specializes in high-
resolution image editing. Which of the following components would be most
essential to ensure precise and accurate color representation on the monitor?
a. Keyboard
b. Graphics card
c. Optical Drive
d. Power Supply Unit
Answer Key:
1. A.
2. B
3. B
4. A
