Legal reasoning Paper -2

Passage

In number series and analogy problems, understanding the pattern behind each sequence is essential.
Number series often follow rules of arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division) or
geometric progression, but they can also involve alternating patterns or exponential growth.

For instance, consider the series 3, 6, 12, 24, 48. This sequence multiplies each number by 2 to get the
next one. Similarly, a series like 5, 10, 20, 40 doubles each time, though starting from a different base. In
contrast, some series have alternating patterns, such as 2, 6, 4, 8, 6, 10, where odd terms follow one rule
and even terms another.

Number analogy problems focus on relationships between numbers. For example, if 4 : 16 :: 5 : 25, the
analogy rule is squaring the first number to get the second. However, other analogies might follow
ratios, sums, or specific sequences, like 3 : 6 :: 7 : 14, where the rule is multiplication by 2.

Odd Man Out challenges identify the number that doesn’t fit with the rest. For example, in 10, 15, 20,
30, 25, the pattern is adding 5 to the previous number, but 30 breaks this rule, making it the odd one
out. Similarly, in 7, 14, 21, 29, 28, the odd number is 29, as all others are multiples of 7.
