Get empowered with Power Query

This training program will equip participants with the skills and knowledge to leverage Power
Query effectively, transforming their data handling capabilities in Excel. By the end of the
training, participants will be adept at consolidating and transforming data from different
sources with advanced techniques and best practices. It will be completely online and hands-
on, focusing on practical example exercises only.

The preferred candidates are those who regularly work with Excel, handling data from various
sources and performing tasks such as data manipulation with tables, VLOOKUPs, and filters.

1. Meta-tech session
• Basics of RestAPI GET Method in Excel Worksheet
o Excel web functions: Webservice, FilterXML, Encodeurl
o Illustration of Array functions for text manipulation
o Understanding the limitations
• Visualizing Data Representation Formats
o Formats: XML, JSON, CSV, Excel, etc.
o Special focus on JSON
• Understanding the significance of file extensions xlsx vs xls in data handling

2. Power Query Walkthrough ETL Examples


• Consolidating CSV Files (with different locales) from Folder
o Right Way: Best practices for consolidation.
o GUI Way and Issues: Common problems encountered with GUI methods.
o Best Practices with Different Sources: Handling files received via email and
zipped formats.
• Combining Excel Files
o Single Sheet per File: Consolidation techniques.

o Multiple Sheets per Workbook: Addressing issues and applying best


practices.
• Connecting with Other Data Sources like SQL / Odata feed

This comprehensive training is designed to empower participants with the skills to
