ABSTRACT

The wide spread of World Wide Web has brought a new way of expressing the sentiments
of individuals. It is also a medium with a huge amount of information where users can
view the opinion of other users that are classified into different sentiment classes and are
increasingly growing as a key factor in decision making. Sentimental analysis is helpful to
analyse the information in the form of the number of tweets where opinions are highly
unstructured and are either positive or negative, or somewhere in between of these two. For
this we first pre-processed the dataset, after that extracted the adjective from the dataset
that have some meaning which is called feature vector, then selected the feature vector list
and thereafter applied machine learning based classification algorithms namely: SVM.
In this report, we will be studying the working behind SVM, which is the standard
approach and by far the best one to implement the Twitter Sentimental Analysis.

CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION

To analyse the information in the form of the number of tweets where opinions are highly
unstructured and are either positive or negative, or somewhere in between of these two.
What do you do when you want to express yourself or reach out to a large audience? We
log on to one of our favourite social media services. Social Media has taken over in today's
world, most of the methods we use to connect and communicate are using social networks,
and Twitter is one of the major places where we express our sentiments about a specific
topic or a concept. Twitter serves as a mean for individuals to express their thoughts or
feelings about different subjects. [1] These emotions are used in various analytics for better
understanding of humans. [2] In this paper, we have attempted to conduct sentiment
analysis on “tweets” using SVM machine learning classification technique. We attempt to
classify the polarity of the tweet where it is either positive or negative. If the tweet has
both positive and negative elements, the more dominant sentiment should be picked as the
final label.
By nature, humans are said to be subjective and often biased with preconceived notions.
Modern human societies are largely influenced by opinions in almost all spheres and
domain of human civilization. Sentiment Analysis of opinions can, therefore, be viewed as
an integral tool to analyse the mood and prevalent disposition of any sample group of
individuals concerning any particular product, service, event or topic expressed in text
form and published on social media platforms, blog posts, comments, web reviews, etc.
The idea of Sentiment Analysis (SA) has been, therefore, to table a summary of opinions
segregated into positive, neutral and negative reviews based on analyses of texts posted by
users in assorted digital platforms on the Internet [1] [2].
