Description
While dealing with a patient in an emergency dementia, the case was that the patient had come
from another country and had started speaking in another language, so the reaction of one of
the health care providers was that he laughed at the patient, which resulted in my smile with
him, and the patient’s response was reflected in anger at the behavior of laughter and when the
head of nursing came Apologizing to the patient and taking the necessary action for those who
laughed. The staff who were present during this case were summoned. The nature of the
mistake committed was explained, that it was a violation of the equality law, and that it is
considered a racist behavior that harms the patient’s mental health. A lecture was given on the
importance of professional values and healthy social behavior and how to practice it in a
positive way that supports health and dignity. Both the patient and the staff.
Feeling
I felt a guilty conscience for smiling at that moment
Evaluation
It was bad to laugh at a different culture as it is a violation of the patient’s dignity.
It was good to punish the guilty in front of the patient and to apologize to him as a sign of
remorse
Analysis
It was not good to smile, even if it was as a communication between colleagues, as the
fellowship should have been more professional, not only in health, but also in behavior.
Conclusion
Needs to improve performance by paying more attention to ethics and moral that are important
while treating the patients
Action plan
I will work in collaboration with colleagues and attend coaching and mentoring programs helps
me to perform the professional values and attitudes and behaviour in a way maintaining the
others dignity, integrity, altruism, honesty, autonomy, and social justice .
