DC++ Guide
If you don’t want to use NCDC on MacOS, you can also use DC++ with Crossover.
Or you can use EiskaltDC++ (doesn’t work properly for everyone tho).
You can download it from the first link you get by googling DC++
(https://dcplusplus.sourceforge.io/download.html)
After installing and opening it for the first time, you might be asked by Windows’
firewall to allow DC++ to communicate on your network. Check both Private and
Public and Allow Access as shown.
If you are opening it for the first time, it should take you directly to the settings
menu. Over there,
7. Under "Sharing", select the folder that you wanna share (DO NOT SHARE
PERSONAL OR WINDOWS FILES)
8. Under "Downloads", it's good practice to set your default downloads path
same as your sharing folder as it'll automatically reshare whatever you download
9. After your files have finished indexing, join a hub. To join, go to File->Quick
connect or just hit Ctrl + Q. Enter the hub’s IP address and you are ready to go.
Make sure your default download directory is the same as your shared
folder so that you automatically reshare whatever you download.
Step 6:
Note: Some hubs may have a minimum share limit set (1GB right now for
CultureHub 172.16.124.46). You won’t be allowed to connect to a hub
unless you share at least that amount of data.
One more note: If you have added stuff to your shared folder but don’t see
it reflect in DC++, do File->Refresh file list. You can also monitor how much
of your files have been indexed by going to View->Indexing progress.
Yet another note: Make sure you are using at least a cat5e ethernet cable
to take advantage of our gigabit infrastructure. Usually the specification is
printed on the cable itself. And if you are using an ethernet to type c
adapter, make sure it supports 1000/1000 speeds and not 100/100 (which it
is for cheap ones). You can check your link speed by going into Windows
settings->Network and Internet->Click on properties of your ethernet
adapter.
It should look something like this:
Using DC++
You can search for anything you want by clicking on the magnifying glass in the
toolbar or hitting Ctrl+S on your keyboard. Download whatever you want and
reshare it.
