Q1. Define electric field intensity. Write it's expression.
A charge is distributed uniformly over a ring of radius 'a'. Obtain an expression for the
electric intensity E at a point on the axis of the ring. Hence show that for points at large
distances from the ring, it behaves like a point charge.
Q2. Derive an expression for the electric field at any point on the equatorial line and at any point
on the axial line of the electric dipole.
Q3. Derive an expression for the torque on an electric dipole in a uniform electric field.
Three charges are arranged on the vertices of an equilateral triangle as shown in figure. Find
the dipole moment of the combination.

Q4. Apply Gauss’s theorem to calculate the electric field due to an infinite plane sheet of charge.
Two infinite parallel planes have uniform charge densities +σ and - σ. Determine the electric
field in :
(i) the region between the planes and (ii) outside it.
Q5. Apply Gauss’s theorem to show that for a spherical shell, the electric field inside the shell
vanishes whereas outside it, the field is as if all the charge had been concentrated at the
