Q1:- Bismuth (Bi) was melted at 270oC and tin (Sn) was melted at 230oC . Bismuth and ten
are formed a eutectic contains 45% Sn at 130oC.The ultimate solubility limits of tin in
bismuth is 5% and bismuth in tin is 10% respectively , and the solubility of tin and Bismuth
in each other's diminished to zero at room temperature. Answer the following :-
1. Plot the phase diagram for bismuth - tin system label all phases and temperature.
2. Determine the phases present, compositions of the phases, and relative amounts of
the phases at the eutectic temperature.
3. For a 30 wt.% Sn alloy, find the phases present and compositions at 100oC,140 oC
Q2:- Draw the equilibrium diagram of X–Y alloys from the information’s below ,label all
phases and temperatures:-
Q3:- Use the following silver-copper phase diagram and answer the following :-
100 % Cu
100 % Ag
Q4:- An alloy consisting of completely soluble cadmium (Cd) and zinc (Zn ) in the
liquid state, but neither of them dissolves in each other in the solid state. the table
shown below shows the solidification temperatures for various alloys of cadmium and
zinc .
1. Draw the equilibrium diagram according to the information given and data in
the table and indicating all important temperature and phases.
2. Find the percentage of each phases and percentage of constituents of the alloy
that contain 60 % Zn and at a temperature 300 oC.
3. Find the melting point for the following alloys 20 % Cd, 80% Cd
4. Draw the internal structure, noting the phases of the following alloys
A) 30 % Cd at 290 oC b) 60 % Cd at room temperature.
