Preamble
We are pleased that you chose our product. We are constantly working on updates and improvements and
new releases of the Bluetooth application are available free of charge for our customers.
Any comments and suggestions you wish to make regarding the improvement of this Instruction Manual will be
much appreciated.
Please note that the display of the Bluetooth App and the layout of icons may vary depending
on the used Android-capable terminals and its Android version.
Please refer to the safety notes in the main manual of the SOMNOmedics product that you use
with the Bluetooth App.
Please follow the hints and instructions given by the manufacturer of your mobile device when
handling the mobile device.
-4-
1 Intended use
The application can communicate with electrophysiological measurement devices from SOMNOmedics (in the
TM TM TM
following simply called “devices”) like SOMNOtouch , SOMNOscreen plus and SOMNO HD . This
Bluetooth application exclusively serves the neat and short term check of the signal quality, normally for a
duration of up to 30 minutes, and not the interpretation of the displayed signals. Bluetooth app provides neither
storing nor continuous monitoring of the signals. Furthermore, it may not be used with systems of life-
sustaining measures.
2 System requirements
The application is only available for Android capable devices you purchased in a bundle with the app. The
Android capable device will simply be called tablet in the following. Its functionality was tested currently with
Android Versions 4.3, 5.0.2, 6.0.1 and 7.0. Please contact SOMNOmedics before updating the Android
software.
TM
SOMNOtouch devices need firmware version 67 or newer for optimal connectivity to the Bluetooth app.
3 First steps
The following conditions are required in order to use the app for signal control:
1. The device has to be connected to the App via Bluetooth (see chapters 4.1 and 4.2).
2. All sensors have to be attached to the patient and connected to the device. A recording with active
online-mode or Bluetooth connection must be running.
3. To guarantee a clear signal view, please deactivate those channels in the montage that are not
recorded.
4. To use the Remote control option (see chapter4.4 Options), a valid SIM card or WIFI connection must
be available.
If you purchased your tablet in a bundle with one or more SOMNOmedics devices, those devices are already
linked to the app. They are listed in the bar on the left side. To link new devices, follow the steps in chapter
4.2.
-5-
4.1-1 Start screen: App set-up
If you purchased the tablet and app independently of a device, the SOMNOmedics device has to be
connected to the app before use.
You find the respective PIN code(s) you need on the delivery note or invoice.
For SOMNO HD and SOMNOtouch with FW 66 or more recent the BT-PIN is now displayed in the device info
(Fig. 4.2-1).
4.2-1: Left: SOMNOtouch device info screen. Right: SOMNO HD info screen
If you cannot find the PIN in your documents or at your devices, please contact the SOMNOmedics service
hotline. Please have the Bluetooth name of the device readily available. You find it on the label on the back of
the device (Fig. 4.2-4).
Tap on “Search BT”. All available SOMNOmedics Bluetooth devices are listed below.
-6-
4.2-3 List of BT devices
Tap on a device name to connect it with the app. In the following window, you are asked to enter a PIN (Fig.
4.2-5).
Successfully linked devices are subsequently listed with the respective symbol in the bar to the left.
Please note: in order to access the signals of an online recording of a SOMNOmedics device, the
BT app has to be linked to the BT receiver that is linked to the SOMNOmedics device.
-7-
4.3 Start screen
In the start screen, it is possible to open a submenu where the logview can be opened or the app be closed.
Depending on the tablet used, the buttons to open the menu may look different:
Examples:
- Open the submenu via the button on the tablet frame (1)
Open the submenu via the button with the three points on the display (2)
1
4.3-1 Sub menu 1
4.4 Options
When you tap on a device symbol for about 3 seconds, the following menu will open:
When choosing “Rename”, you can change the name of the device (e.g. Room 1, SSC Room 1 etc.).
“Delete from list” deletes the device from the list. In order to reconnect the device with the app, it has to be
searched via “Search BT” and linked again. The connection needs to be verified by entering the PIN code.
-8-
Note: If a SOMNOmedics device has been coupled to the app via a valid PIN, the device is also stored and
listed in the list "Paired devices" of the Android operating system. By choosing "delete" (or similar) the
connection to the SOMNOmedics device is completely removed.
The “Remote Check” enables you to monitor a measurement even if it is e.g. taking place at the patient’s
home. The app will send screenshots in regular intervals showing the selected channels.
Several options can be configured via the dialog box (Fig. 4.4-2):
e-mail adress of the recepient
starting time of the remote check
time intervals (15 min, 30 min, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 10 h) in which a screenshot of the recording is sent by e-
mail
time basis of the screenshot
displayed channels (all, EEG, respiratory, polygraphy, etc.)
The name of the device is written in the subject line of the e-mail to assign the screenshot to the transmitter.
Please note that a valid SIM card or WIFI connection must be provided and mobile internet has to be active.
Each screenshot has a data size of about 500 kB.
If the checkbox "Continuous operation" is activated, the BT app continously tries to establish a BT connection
to the device, even if at first no connection was possible at the start time. This is useful if several
measurements are planned with gaps in between.

Note: The “Remote Check” window must remain open during the period chosen for the remote
control since the task is canceled when closing the window.
