Lesson Solving Problems
1 Involving Parallelogram,
Trapezoid and Kite
In your previous module, you have learned the midline theorem,
theorems on trapezoid and theorems on kite. At this point, you are going to
extend the knowledge that you have learned about the properties of
parallelogram, theorems on trapezoid and theorems on kite by applying them
in solving problems. This lesson deals with solving problems involving
parallelogram, trapezoid and kite.
Now, make yourself ready as we study this lesson to improve our skills
in solving problems.

2. If 𝑚∠LDU = 2x+30 and 𝑚∠UOL= x+50, what is =the 𝑚∠LDU?
Solution:
𝑚∠LDU = 2x+30 and Given
𝑚∠UOL = x+50
Since 𝑚∠LDU= 𝑚∠UOL Opposite angles of a parallelogram are congruent
Therefore, we have:
2x+30 = x+50
2x+30 +(-30) = x+50 + (-30) Apply Addition Property of Equality by adding -30
2x = x+20 on both sides of the equation and simplify.
2x + (-x) = x + (-x) +20 Apply Addition Property of Equality by adding -x
x = 20 on both sides of the equation and simplify.

4. If the measure of LA=(4x+5) inches and UA=(x+20) inches, how long is LA?
Solution:
LA = 4x+5 and Given
UA = x+20
Since LA= UA The diagonals of a parallelogram bisect each
Therefore, we have: other.
4x+5 = x+20
4x + 5+ (-5) = x+20 + (-5) Apply Addition Property of Equality by adding -5
4x = x+15 on both sides of the equation and simplify.
4x + (-x) = x + (-x) +15 Apply Addition Property of Equality by adding -x

4. What is the value of x if RC= 2x-11 and IE= x-3 ?
Solution:
RC=2x-11 and IE= x-3 Given
Since RC = IE The diagonals of isosceles trapezoid are
Therefore, we have: congruent.
2x-11 = x-3
2x-11+11 = x-3+11 Apply Addition Property of Equality by adding 11
2x = x+8 on both sides of the equation and simplify.
2x + (-x) = x + (-x) +8 Apply Addition Property of Equality by adding -x
x=8 on both sides of the equation and simplify.
The value of x is now equal to 8.
Answer: Therefore, x = 8.

Solution:
OR= 3x+5 and OS= 2x+15 Given
Since OR= OS, In a kite, the perpendicular bisector of at least one
Therefore, we have: diagonal is the other diagonal.
3x+5 = 2x+15
3x+5 + (-5) = 2x+15 + (-5) Apply Addition Property of Equality by adding -5
3x = 2x+10 on both sides of the equation and simplify.
