It occurs when settlement are found along a geographical feature for example a long river valley
or a major transport

●Climate:In extreme environments settlements are generally small. This is because the
environment is too harsh to provide much food

●Farming:Many settlements that were formally fishing villages have become important tourists
resorts. Examples:Many carribean settlements such as Solfriere estlucia have involved into
important agriculture sites.

Settlement hierarchy and how it affects people:

A settlement hierarchy is when settlements are put in an order and classified based on their size

and or the range of services that they provide for people. The higher up the hierarchy you go there are
fewer settlements but they increase in their size in terms of population and the of services provided.
