BODY World Trade Organization (WTO).

ISSUE Current challenges and issues facing the World Trade Organization
CONCERNING (WTO)

The Economic and Social Council,

1. Recalling the founding principles of the World Trade Organization (WTO) that aim to promote
global economic growth and development through open and fair trade practices,

2. Recognizing the importance of the WTO in maintaining a rules-based international trading


system,

3. Noting with concern the current challenges and issues facing the WTO,

4. Emphasizing the significance of multilateralism in international trade and the role of the WTO in
upholding this principle,

5. Acknowledging the ongoing debate regarding the dispute settlement mechanism of the WTO and
the need for reforms to ensure its effectiveness,

6. Concerned by the increasing protectionist measures and trade barriers being imposed by certain
member states, which hinder free and fair trade,

7. Recognizing the negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on global trade and the need for
collaborative efforts to address trade-related challenges arising from it,

8. Stressing the importance of addressing issues related to intellectual property rights, subsidies,
and non-tariff barriers to trade within the framework of the WTO,

9. Expressing the desire to strengthen the WTO's capacity-building and technical assistance
programs to assist developing countries in participating effectively in the global trading system.

10. Encourages all members to participate and contribute in order to achieve the objective of peace
and fairness in the WTO, (France)

11. Taking into account the fact that many objectives still have to be reached, and many points have
yet to be discussed, it is committed to putting in motion all the eventual actions required to solve
problems that may arise, (France)
12. Deeply convinced that the only way to resolve a dispute is through a regulated and fair
discussion, is ready to listen to any complaints other countries may have and collaborate with
them to reach a just solution that is satisfying for both parties, (France)

13. Requests the French government to stop interfering in African economies with the CFA Franc
rendering them incapable of conducting any development towards alternative energy and
economic stability, and to give compensation to 14 states it has caused problems. (Congo)

14. Viewing with appreciation The italian department of foreign affairs deciding to increase
investments into angola over the past couple of years. More specifically we would like to
commend them on opening an ICE (Italy’s national foreign trade agency) office in our capital city
of Luanda. (angola)

15. Strongly advise all nation state to make good use of the Dispute Settlement Body(DSB)-an official
body of the WTO, to settle disputes between countries with fairness and peace(Brazil)

16. expressing our deep regrets for the misstreatment of congolese dimond miners in Angola and
wish to continue to colaborate and create safe work enviroments for your people(Angola)

17. Supports the establishment and the development of foreign companies in Italy throughout the
foreign investments attraction department, by

i. promoting business opportunities

ii. providing help to foreign investors to establish, and expand their operations; (Italy)

18. Affirms that Italy is willing to play a leading role in Angola’s growth and to create a strengthened
partnership with Luanda, offering

i. free national growth from the oil sector

ii. greater involvement of the private sector in projects that go beyond the energy sector

iii. a collaboration in aerospace, a branch in which Italy has a close relationship with Africa; (Italy)

19. Calls on Investigations upon the international community to support and invest in South Africa's
economic development initiatives, recognizing its potential as a key player in the global market;(

20. Urges all member states to support Canada's efforts to address world trading issues through
open dialogue, cooperation, and the promotion of fair and equitable trade practices ( Canada

21. Affirms its commitment to promoting a rules-based international trading system that fosters
economic growth, social development, and sustainable trade practices for the benefit of all nations (
Canada
1. Encourages Japan to promote the cooperation between the private owners of the springs,
that hold enormous geothermal potential, and their government; (Norway)

2. Calls upon all Member States to nationally support the installation of private renewable
energy devices, as it would:
a. create an increased competition in the markets,
b. help achieve zero emission goals,
c. encourage citizens to be more conscious,
d. offer a relative cheap alternative to citizens, who are suffering from the highly
increased non-renewable energy prices; (USA)
