Settings & Tips for Orotig writer

The success & ease of use with this machine is mainly achieved with PRACTICE. Always keep spare material ( plates
& rings) on hand to test before marking the final product especially in the early stages of learning. While assistance
& support is always available online, by telephone or Teamviewer we encourage our users to trouble shoot & go
through the instructions often to familiarise themselves with the software. The engraving or cutting will only be as
perfect as the artwork supplied and materials used.

NEVER forget your eye protection. NEVER put your hand into the machine when the laser is working.

Keep the machine clean at all times.

Icons:
Pens-
This will be what you use to engrave- colour dark brown, lighter brown, white OR cut OR
both.

You click on the colour block icon then back to the paper sheet to apply the action.

Dependant on the desired effect of engraving as well as the types of metal being marked,
the following needs to be set up for each type of "pen".

 Mark loop is the amount of times the laser runs over the piece- generally with
engraving only once( unless you want it very deep -deeper than 0.2/0.3mm then go over it
multiple times). For cutting it would need to go through multiple loops to cut through
generally 2 loops for every 0.1mm thick- so e.g. 0.5mm needs at least 10 loops)
 Speed ( mm/s) is how quickly it is done- the slower the more accurate (70-
100mm/s)
 Power( %) max 100% too much power with engraving causes blurred edges. (
Generally 50-70%)
 Frequency is KHz used ( Generally 20-50 KHz)
Hatching
3 steps, types & styles of engraving -
Select Hatch , Click enable box , select drop down pen colour
Select #2 , Click enable box, select drop down pen colour
Select #3 , Click enable box , select drop down pen colour
Type- direction should all be the same for each of the 3 steps. Angles of 45 is better
than running portrait

Design:
Your engraving & cutting will only be as good as your design- options for design files: DXF, SVG format, or JPG,
bitmap. The higher resolution the better- for example:

Image- it looks good as small size but when you enlarge the image it does not have crisp edges- always look at the
resolution and make sure it is higher than 800

Engraving flat:
Tools: Use building blocks to raise the item and allow air flow.
Tips: If your material is not clean and completely flat you will not have precise
engraving. Various materials have different settings.
General Settings: Loop 1 , Speed 50, Power 70, Frez30
Pen type: Black 0, Blue 1, Red 2, Green 3

Engraving curved surfaces:

Tools: Use the correct adapter on the chuck system and change angle to get laser onto correct surface.

General Settings: Top tab select "Laser" then select item being mark or style.
-split mark 2 and rotary mark is for bitmap images
Ring / Bangle Inside & Outside- RingTextMark

(vector only)

Loop 1 , Speed 50, Power 70, Frez30

Click the block to enter the dimensions

Pen type: Black 0, Blue 1, Red 2, Green 3

Cutting:
Tools:
Use building blocks to raise the item and allow air flow
Always put a metal sheet on the bottom surface in case the laser cuts through too much.
Tips: Having good ventilation helps.
General Settings: Loops (depends on thickness) , Speed 50-70, Power 50-100, Freq 20-30
Pen type: PINK

Advanced settings:

click on Advanced to bring up the screen for further settings on cutting.

Wobble:

Often a wobble needs to be set for thicker pieces than 0.5mm- the wobble
makes the laser cut thicker lines so that we you get deeper into the metal the
laser reaches the plate being cut rather than constantly cutting the top surface edge.

Setting 0.1mm / 0.30mm

Ready to start your machine!

Light - shows a box with the red pointer on your item as to where the laser will engrave you need to click stop & let
the note that appears on screen disappear before you can go to the marking step.
Mark- starts the laser process, when the machine is marking the note will appear on the screen and disappear when
finished if you need to stop laser process push stop- Emergency stop shuts down the hole machine.
(The below points can be further reviewed in the manual)

Safety first:
Goggles & Safety screen Ventilation
Steady table Clean material

Machine Use:
The remote locks plugged in, USB plugged in into your laptop, switch power on, turn key ( this activates the cooling
ventilator for the laser lens - it only needs to be on when you ready to mark/engraver.

Changing the lens:

Switch machine off, Use the correct key spanner tool to open up the side fittings next to the lens- there are two.
Change lens, then

Short focal lens (100mm) the main two advantages are that you have more power and a smaller dot of laser, so
more precision. It is better to use this lens if you have to cut a lot of detail or thicker plate than 0.7mm, or if you
have to engrave very small images and text, eg: barely visible for the eye, small hallmarks item less than 2mm.
The down side of a 100mm lens is that you will have a smaller working area, and a very bad tolerance if you are
moving even a little bit out of focus.

Standard focal lens (160mm )The features of a longer focal lens are a bigger working area, an higher tolerance if the
surface is a little bit curved; but you will lose power and a little bit of precision.
