Electrical Machines (EET-205), Assignment

1. A 125 KVA Transformer having primary voltage of 2000V at 50Hz has 182 primary 40
secondary turns neglecting the loss, Calculate
a) The full load primary and secondary current.
b) The no load secondary induced EMF.
c) The Maximum flux in the core.

2. A single phase, 100KVA, 2000/200V, 50Hz transformer has an impedance drop of 10% and
resistance drop of 5%, Calculate
a) Regulation at full load 0.8pf lagging.
b) The value of power factor at which regulation is zero.

3. The following result were obtained on 50KVA, 2400/120KVA transformer:

Open circuit test, instrument on low voltage side
Wattmeter reading = 396W
Ammeter reading = 9.65 A
Voltmeter reading = 120 V
Short circuit test, Instruments on high voltage side
Wattmeter reading = 810W
Ammeter reading = 20.8A
Voltmeter reading = 92V

a) The circuit constant.
b) The efficiency at full load, 0.8pf lagging.
c) The approximate voltage regulation.

4. The maximum efficiency of 100KVA, single phase transformer is 98% and occurred at 80% of
full load at 0.8 power factor lagging. If the leakage of the transformer is 5%, find the voltage
regulation at full load.

5. A single-phase transformer working at unity power factor has an efficiency of 0.9PU both at
half load and full load of 500W. Determine the efficiency at 75% of full load.

6. An 8-pole LAP wound D.C. generator armature has 960 conductors, a flux of 40mwb and a
speed of 400rpm, Calculate the emf generated on open circuit, if the same armature is wave
wound at what speed it must be driven to generate 400V?

7. A shunt generator gives full load output of 30kW at a terminal voltage of 200V the armature
and shunt field resistance are 0.05 ohm and 50 ohms respectively the iron and friction losses
are 1000W calculate
a) Generated EMF
b) Copper Losses
c) Efficiency

8. A 250V shunt motor on no load runs at 1000rpm and takes 5A the total armature and shunt
fields resistance are respectively 0.2 ohm and 250 ohms. Calculate the speed when loaded and
taking a current of 50A, if the armature reaction weakens the field by 3%.

9. A 250V DC shunt motor having an armature resistance of 0.25 ohm carries and armature current
of 50A and runs at 750rpm. If the flux is reduced by 10% find the speed assume that the load
torque remains same.

and field is 0.4 ohm. Calculate the resistance to be inserted in series so as to reduced the
800RPM, assuming torque to varies as square of the speed and linear magnetization curve.
