Maximizing Efficiency: Key Business Processes That Can Benefit from Automation

Business processes are often described as linked tasks that when completed, helps the company
achieve an organizational goal. With technology running practically everything, it can be seen everywhere,
including in the business world. Technology helps perform tasks, run routines and so much more.

The point of automating business processes is simplicity. It simplifies what used to be a complex procedure
that takes up a lot of time and effort, as well as, huge volumes of the company’s assets. Processes that
usually qualify for automation are those that are either risky, repetitive, or high-volume procedures.
Companies can automate a lot of business processes, and here’s a few on the list:

• Customer Support. Automating customer service platforms offer input into the company’s overall
customer support process, besides speeding up the time to resolve through a variety of customer-
facing feature, enabling you to find ways to improve organizational performance.
• Sales Processing. An essential part of having sales are duties such as filing and call logging, and
these can all be automated. Digital workflows between sales platforms allow the sales staff to spend
more time selling and less time on manual data entry, between connected devices, paperless
contracts, and automated call recordings.
• Expense Tracking. Creating expense reports manually is neither an easy nor fun task to do. It
requires a huge amount of time and effort, and mistakes can occur a lot more than expected. Thanks
to technology, there are multiple platforms that can help you stay on top of your company’s
expenses.
• CRM Processing. The customer relationship management process is a technique for keeping every
customer interaction personalized and relevant.

Now that you heard what business processes you can be automate, you’re going to start asking yourself
how to start and which process should you automate in your company. Well, here are some steps to get you
started with picking which processes to automate in your company:

• Create a list of your processes. Make a list that shows all the recurring tasks and procedures that
are built into it. Keep in mind that it doesn’t have to be immensely detailed or complicated as
process mapping. To know what repetitive tasks your team or department goes through, have
everybody write down for a few days what their activities are as they happen.
• Review your processes. Look at how your processes are based on categories such as its current
level of automation, total costs(both current and expected ones), and amount of human judgment
required. If necessary, create a scale for ranking each process for every category.
• Rate each process. After scoring each process, see which you should prioritize automating. Take
note to compare the pros and cons, as well as the current and possible future changes that will
happen to each process if automated.

Automating business processes is one of a few blessings the business world can receive thanks to
technology. Without it, a company’s progress will be slow and not much will expect how amazingly
productive and efficient they can become.
