Estimate the size of this site basing your estimation on the below plan of
the model and real sites that you have visited. Investigate the urban rules
for re-zoning at City of Joburg and preparing a site for constructing a
shopping structure.
Below is the plan view of the floors.

Use your skills of creativity, innovation and drawing abilities to design:

INSTRUCTIONS:
a) The design report should be structured as follows:
• Cover Page – Include the UJ logo, department name, module name and code, group number
and name, members’ surnames, initials and student number, and date. This should be on its own
page.
• Anti-plagiarism declaration – Obtain the form from U-link, complete and attach it. All the group
members should sign. No signatures, no mark for the project. This should be on its own page.
• Table of Contents – List page numbers with descriptive titles for the sections. This should be on
its own page.
• List of Figures – Similar to Table of Contents. Used to quickly find the illustrations, diagrams,
and charts in the report. This should be on its own page.
• Introduction – Include background information and the objective.
• Design Criteria – The explicit goals that a project must achieve to be successful. And a short
description of your design concept.
• Design Specifications – Materials used and their specifications.
• Drawings – Include landscape A3 printouts of the locality plan, site plan, foundation plan, three
floor plans, front elevation, and an isometric view of the building. These files should be supported
by DWG files which must be submitted on U-link before the deadline. All drawing must be
introduced and discussed in-text.
• Conclusion – Short review and summary of what you have designed and will not contain any
new information that has not already been introduced elsewhere in your report.
• References – You must acknowledge any source that you refer to in your report, both within the
text of your report, and at the end of it by including a list of references. This should be on its own
page.
• Appendices – Any visual documents such as drawings, tables or graphs that support your
report. This should be on its own page. Optional.

b) All the drawings should conform to all the relevant South African standards such as SABS 0143
and SANS 10111-1.

c) Each student should have at least one full drawing to create. You must distribute all work
(including administrative work) evenly amongst the group members. 5 members per group.

Use catalogues and internet sources to obtain information on how the required drawings are
created, and to get actual sizes and shapes of various building components such as furniture,
doors, windows, etc.

*ECSA GA 3 is developed in this project, therefore a minimum of 50% is required on this project to
pass this module.
