It was a long day, but I have 2
hours of rest before I go to my
second work place. Yep…. I
have two jobs. /cashier at a
shop on West Street in Durban
and a waitress at a club
around Durban also. So, I
went to the club and went to
the worker’s relief room and
took a nap for an hour then
woke up, went to the showers,
freshened myself up then wore
my uniform. I always make
sure to pack it in my back
pack when I go to work in the
morning.
It’s a black leather mini skirt,
those one button cardigans
(black) and my white slip-on
heels. Don’t ask me why we
have a uniform as such but ke
sothini? We need the money.
The club opens at 6o’clock. I
headed to the bar area.
Thabang: chomie you look
yummie
Me: awukahle mngani
ukudlala ngami, anyways
are there any announcements?
Thabang: nothing big, just
that big boss is coming today
and you don’t know him.
Chomie!!! He is yummier than
you ndikuxelele. He is a
Roman God mngani loya
Kodwa my friend he is
something else shame, yep he
is gay. My bestfriend.
Silence……..silence……..
Okaaay…. Moving on.
Me: may I get y’all something
to drink?
Guy1: yes. Please bring us a
bottle of brandy and ice.
Me: will that be all?
They all looked at each other
and this uptight looking one
nods.
Ngahamba ke ngayokwenza
lento yabo. And went to put it
on their table and the thing
about working here when you
set the table you lay a black
cloth then put the ice in the
bucket and then place it
perfectly in the middle. That I
learnt from training.
Anyways I took the things
and went to the table. I had to
bend and I was no where near
comfortable bending in front
of the other two men, the
serious one was much better, he
looked less arrogant, id say.
The other ones? Is not make
sure!
So I bent down as I didn’t
want to show my front part if
ngiqojeme, I think you get the
picture. So ngagobela ngaku
MR. Serious and did my
business then went to chill at
the bar. They looked like they
were in deep business. After 3
full hours, they wrapped up
and stood up and the arrogant
looking guys walked out
leaving MR. Serious.
“thank you for your good
service”
He said taking out a stack of
R200’s
Me: this is way to more than
your bill money sir
“don’t worry about the bill it
was settled wena take this it is
yours. And call me Lusizo.
Shall we?”
He lead the way to the door
then let me through first then
he closed. I Was walking in
front of him, I felt completely
naked because I could feel his
eyes on my back. They should
change the uniform.
“I think it is about time I
change the uniform, too
revealing for my liking.”
Me: glad somebody sees what I
have been complaining about,
but I don’t make the rules
We reached the main space
and it was empty.
Me: kanti what is the time?
Lusizo: past 1 o’clock
Me: shit let me get my things
I rushed to our relief room and
took my things from the
locker and went out to the
security.
Security: usuyohamba kahle
ngane yami, ukulindile
umkhwenyana.
Me: umkhwenyana?
Security: hamba kuhlwile
ksamele uvuke ntombi yam
Me: usuyosala kahle ke baba
I left and a car flicked its
lights. I went closer to it. It
was Lusizo.
Lusizo: get in
I got in.
Me: thank you for the lift, but
how do I know you wont
kidnap me?
Lusizo: I mean you are
already in so I guess you trust
me.
Me: I guess you are the
arrogant one, you just
portrayed MR. Serious
He smirked
Lusizo: arrogant, you say?
Me: whatever. I need to call
someone
I called Thabang.
Thabang: babe? Why you
calling so late?
Me: don’t call me babe, you do
not leave your girl
Thabang: I thought you were
long gone because I saw that I
was the only one left. I tried
calling you and it put me
straight to voice mail.
Me: I understand love,
anyways, I will see you
tomorrow.
Thabang: love you! Wait…..
are you on the road?
Me: yes, one of the gentlemen
that I was serving was kind
enough to give me a lift.
Thabang: is he cute?
Me: haa babe we will talk later
today
Thabang: wait did you see big
boss
Me: love, sleep
Thabang: okay ke. Love you
Me: love you more. He dropped
the call.
Lusizo: boyfriend?
Me: no, bestfriend.
Lusizo: that is a boy
Me: yes why?
Lusizo: nah lutho.
The drive was just fine with
me directing him to my
shack. I came to Durban to
make a living because
emakhaya awekho amathuba
emisebenzi.
When we got there I saw my
things outside of the gate.
Me: no noo noooooo, this can’t
be happening
I quickly got out of the car
when it stopped leaving my
bag inside.
I was going to pay my rent
next weekend but I guess my
landlord couldn’t wait much
longer
Lusizo: whats happening?
Me: my landlord just kicked
me out, I literally have no
place to go.
Lusizo: don’t you have close
relatives?
Me: not that I know of. My
family is in the Eastern Cape
Lusizo: I think I have a pace I
can take you to.
He took my things and put
them in the boot then went to
his side and drove off. I was so
not okay with this, I mean I
am officially homeless. And a
stranger is taking me to a
place I don’t know.
We drove for a clean 30
minutes then arrived at this
big beautiful one storey house.
Me: wow this house is
beautiful
Lusizo: and it is where you
will be staying
He got out and took my
things from the boot and got
inside the house. I followed
him. I was so stunned. The
house was freakishly clean
and stunning.
Lusizo: down the passage is
your room and the bathroom
next door. Kitchen right here
and the rest you will figure
out.
Me: thank you so much. But
wait……. Where will you be
sleeping?
Lusizo: don’t worry about me,
I am old enough, wena just get
comfortable. Here is my
number call me if out need
anything
He gave me a card.
Me: i… uh….
Lusizo: take your time you
still have 3 weeks to make up
your mind. If you are not
comfortable we can take
Thabang with since you guys
are best-friends
Me: I will talk to him first
then you will get your
feedback.
So after some thought and
Thabang’s input to my
decision, we decide to go ahead
with the Met Gala thing
because the outfits were
already done just a few
alterations left.
We already did our last
fittings and Thabang will get
his fit in New York. Khay will
come with it. We are flying
tomorrow morning.
Thabang is here with us in
JHB. When he got here to
Sizo’s house he couldn’t stop
complimenting it, I was also
like that. I don’t have much
clothes to pack other than
Lusizo”s and a few of mine
because I didn’t come prepared
like Thabang. He came with a
suitcase and did shopping
when he got here. Yep the one
Lusizo promised us. Mina I
bought a few things. Thabang
heard the word no limit and
sloshed the money. I just took
three dresses and sneakers.
************************
We have been on this flight for
quiet some time now. And I
am exhausted. We are flying
one-way.
************************
We got there and all of us
went to bed saze savuka
ngaksasa. I shared a room
with Lusizo whilst Thabang
was with Khay. I know this
has to do with Sizo but I have
my own room. Its like he
booked villas in this hotel.
And Thabang and Khay have
been very close since they met,
I just know they are up to
something. I was the last one
to wake up because I saw a note
on the side table stating that
Tee and Khay are out, and
Lusizo just Came in with a
tray with breakfast/brunch.
“ what do I do
When you look at me the way
you do
What do I say baby I cant keep
my pedant straight
What do I pray for
I’ve been praying
I’ve been praying
If we were in a movie’s scene
Or even in a Hollywood screen
I’d say”
